3rd September, Petaling Jaya: Korea got off to a great start at the 2nd Asian Para Tenpin Bowling Championship after their women won six out of seven gold medals in the Women's Singles while the men shared the TPB3 Singles gold medal with Malaysia.

Park Jong Hwan set a blistering pace with 269 in his opening game to lead a field of nine TPB9 contenders while Zainul Akmal Sin Siran had a disastrous start with 154 and was in eighth position. Zainul recovered with back-to-back 227 as Park managed only 163 and 199.

Although Park ended the 6 games singles with 175, 215 and 232, the Malaysian stormed home with 257 to tie with the Korean for the gold medal with 1253. A second Malaysian, Mohd Rizal Hassan finished third for the bronze medal with 1157.

Korean men picked up their second gold medal after Yun Seung Sang totaled 1361 in the Men's TPB4 category. Malaysia's Abg Yahya Abg Azhar secured the silver medal with 1325 while Singapore's Ismail Mohammad Farhan settled for the bronze medal with 1274.

Thailand's picked up their first gold medal of the championship after Krisada Kietkontawee rolled 793 to win the Men's TPB1 Singles event. Hong Kong's Hong Ka Lung and Chinese Taipei's Chiu Wen-Shen earned the silver and bronze medals with 766 and 717 respectively.

Ke Ming-Shuo collected Chinese Taipei's first gold in the Men's TPB2 Singles category with 1158. Japan's Yasuhiro Takai took the silver medal with 1134 and Won Byung Yong of Korea claimed the bronze medal with 1052.

Malaysian dominated the Men's TPB8 and TPB9 Singles. Rosheedy Faizal Roslan captured the gold medal with 1153 as Marcos Chang and Mohd Azrin Rahim finished one-two for the gold and silver medals with 1329 and 1325 respectively.

The final Men's Singles gold was won by Hong Kong's Chow Pui Kin after he amassed a total of 1367 in the TPB10 category. Thailand's Raiwin Phisitthanakul and Singapore's Matthew David Chan took home the silver and bronze medals.

Meanwhile, Korean women dominated the Singles by winning six of the seven gold medals at contested. Kim Heung Hwa captured the first gold medal in the TPB1 Singles event with 754 ahead of Thailand's Methini Wongchomphu and Japan's Tamami Emura settling for the silver and bronze medals.

Korea's second gold came from Cho Young Hwa winning the Women's TPB2 Singles with 1049. Yumiko Iwashita of Japan and Man Sui Sze of Hong Kong, China took home the silver and bronze medals. Korean women continued their winning streak with Lee Kun Hye's victory in the TPB3 Singles with 1163 for their third gold.

Kim Eun Hyo claimed Korea's fourth gold medal in the Women's TPB4 Singles event with 1057. Singapore settled for the silver and bronze medals with 1046 and 923. Kim Jong Soon almost won Korea's fifth but was denied by Lee Chia-Chen for winning Chinese Taipei's second gold with 992 in the TPB8 category.

However, Korean women won two additional gold medals in the TPB9 and TPB10 categories. Park Ji Eun captured their fifth gold with 1171 and Kim Su Yeong ended the first day of competition by picking up Korea's sixth gold medal in the TPB10 Singles.

Competition shifted to the Doubles event at 1.00pm today with the TPB1+3 and TPB2+2 categories. The TPB4+4 and the TPB10+10 Doubles will be contested September 4 at 9.00am and the TPB8+8 and TPB9+9 at 1.00pm.
