Subang Jaya, Jeju and Jakarta makes top four

12th November, Jakarta: Syed Muhd Hafiz and Muhd Nur Aiman of Subang Jaya wins the Men's Doubles preliminary of the 37th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship to advance to the medal round as top seed along with Jeju pair in second and two Jakarta pairs in third and fourth.

The first Jakarta pair of Charlie Christian and Pradana Yogatama set blistering pace with their opening game of 523 from Christian's 279 and Yogatama's 244. The second Jakarta pair of Paolo M. and Patrick Hernandez post a superb 494 to trail their team-mates by 29 pins.

Subang Jaya was in a close third, just two pins away from Jakarta 2. The first Shah Alam pair of Timmy Tan and Muhammad Azizi were fourth with 489 and the first Ulsan pair of Park Sang Jin and Choi Wom Seok in fifth with 483.

Syad Muhd Hafiz rolled the championship's third 300 in his second game and Muhd Nur Aiman contributing 233 to give Subang Jaya 1 the lead. Jakarta 1 trailed in second, eight pins adrift while the first Ulsan pair of Hwang Dong Wook and Lee Jae Jung moved up to third.

Subang Jaya 1 continued their hot pace with 522 to stretch their lead to 41 pins after the third game. Ulsan took over second spot with an identical 522 as Jakarta 1 moved ahead of Jakarta 2. The Syed Muhd Hafiz-Muhd Nur Aiman combination proved fruitful as the Subang Jaya pair ended with 513 to seal top spot for the medal round with 2060. Ulsan ended with 470 to settle for second with 1976. The two Jakarta pairs made the medal round in third and fourth with 1858 and 1923 respectively.

Meanwhile, Faten Najihah and Anis Hannani of Petaling Jaya, who finished yesterday's Singles in first and second, again dominated the Women's Doubles preliminary by qualifying to yet another medal round finals with 1884.

Adlin Nadhirah Ghazali and Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani of Shah Alam finished in a distant second with 1703, 181 pins away. Twins Nurul Ayunni Junaidi and Nurul ALyssa Junaidi of Shah Alam, who made the Singles medal round in third and fourth, made another medal round in third with 1702.

The top four spots in the Senior Men's Doubles went to Sam Lam Kun and Henry Hui of New Territories in first with 1835, Ken Ng and Eddie Tong of Subang Jaya in second with 1728,

The second pair of Norel Gonzales Nuevo and Maria Lourdes Cruz Arles of Paranaque made the cut in fourth with 1598.

Sukinto Wijaya and Irsan Djundijung of Jakarta finished third and Kuala Lumpur's Engku Mohammad Fadzrul and Sulaiman Bin Ramli made the cut in fourth with 1725.


Women's Doubles Top 4 finalists, Shah Alam 1, Petaling Jaya 2,

Jeju did well by topping the Senior Women's Doubles with 1706 to advance to the medal round. Jakarta's Maulida Marthiana and Sri Retno Pancaningsh finished second with 1693. Newcomer, Rusmawati and Siti Zariah Binti Suradi of Selayang and Subang Jaya's Poziah Atan and Datin Rokiah Binti Ali made the cut in third and fourth positions.

The top-seeds of each division will face the fourth-seeds and the second-seeds will square off with the third-seeds over one match to determine who would advance to the gold medal match, again over one game. The winner of the final will be awarded the gold medal and the loser will take home the silver. The losing semi-finalists will earn a bronze medal each.

Competition will shift to the Team of Four event for all divisions over the three-game preliminaries on November 13 and 14. The top 4 pairs will advance to the medal rounds.
