Singapore dominates Round 1

23rd May, Manila: Singapore women dominated the Ladies' Open Masters Round 1 finals of the 2017 Philippine International Open with Jermaine Seah, Iliya Syamin and Amabel Chua taking up the top three spots at Coronado Lanes on Monday.

Dale Lazo of TBAM-Prima-RP set a cracking pace with a stunning opening game of 279 to lead compatriot, Rachelle Leon of TBAM-Prima by 67 pins. Lazo continued to lead for another game with 204 as Liza Clutario of MTBA-RP moved up to second.

But Lazo could not hang on to her lead when she managed only 154 in her third game allowing Clutario to take over the running, 28 pins ahead of the early pace-setter. 2016 World Youth Masters silver medallist, Amabel Chua of Singapore was a distant third.

Clutario stumbled to a lowly 155 in the fourth game which allowed Iliya Syamin of Singapore to narrow the gap to just eight pins in second while a third Singaporean, Jermaine Seah gradually moved up to third.

Iliya took her opportunity to leapfrog the Filipina and took over the lead as the Filipina stumbled to another disasterous 145 in the fifth game. Seah took over second spot, 11 pins behind. Chua and Clutario was fourth and fifth.

Iliya added 212 in her sixth game but Seah reduced the gap to just seven pins with 216. Seah ended the round strongly with 208 and 228 to seal top spot with 1640. Iliya settled for second position with 1616, 24 pins adrift.

Chua gave Singapore the top three spots in third with 1608. Alexis Sy of TBAM-Prima-RP stormed home to claim fourth position with 1585 while Clutario hung on to fifth with 1552. Mades Arles clinched the sixth and final spot for Round 2 finals with 1505. Singapore's Joy Yap missed the cut by 19 pins finishing seventh.

The top six will be joined the top three local and top three overseas seeded qualifiers for another eight games in Round 2 Finals commencing at 10.00am. The top three finishers at the end of the second round will proceed to the stepladder shootout finals.
