1st September, Bangkok: Caden Chew Xing Chang picked up another title for Singapore after winning the Youth 18 & Under Masters title of the 46th MWA-Singha Thailand International Open at Rhythmn & Bowl Ratchayothin on Thursday.

Debutant, Nguyen Le Minh Tri of Vietnam got off the mark with a sizzling 267 in his opening game to lead Louis Lim Kai Teng of Singapore by 10 pins followed by another SIngapore youth, Donovan Coh Chi Clow, a further 10 pins away in third.

Nguyen added another stunning 268 in his second game to take his lead to 88 pins. Malaysia's Syed Adrees Darwiz posted back-to-back 224 and 223 to take up second spot ahead of 21st MWA Asian Junior All-Events gold medallist, Ramita Sarntong of Thailand in third, thanks to an 8-pin handicap per game.

Although Nguyen managed only 190 and 184 in his next two games, the Vietnamese was able to hold on to his lead albeit having his margin reduced to 36 pins as Caden Chew Xing Chang picked up his pace with back-to-back 225s to move into second.

Nguyen bounced back brilliantly with 225, 256 and 246 in the next three games and looked to cruise to a comfortable victory with a 78-pin margin going into the eighth and final game. Chew remained hot on his heels with 224, 225 and 236. The leader must have choked under pressure when he could only down 160 while Chew kept his great momentum to finish off with a strong 243 to snatch victory with 1801. Nguyen settled for second with 1796, just 5 pins behind.

Sarntong came home a creditable third with 1676 followed by Syed Adrees Darwiz and Aloysius Seow of Singapore completing the top five with 1640 and 1625 respectively. The Youth 21 & Under Masters Finals will be contested later this evening.
