29th July, Bangkok: 2017 Thailand Open second runner-up, Hardy Rachmadian of Indonesia and Nora Lyana Nastasia of Malaysia won the Men's Open and Women's Open Round 2 finals of the 47th MWA-Singha Thailand International Open on Saturday to advance to the next round.

The start of the Men's Round 2 finals saw massive scores shot by three finalists. Last year's Thailand Open first runner-up got off to a blistering start with an opening game of 279 to lead team-mate, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin by just a single pin.

Defending champion, Annop Arromsaranon did well to stay in third with 277. The Thai added a superb game of 254 to quickly move into the lead with Ismail trailing in second, 14 pins adrift. Syazirol managed 194 to slip to third.

Arromsaranon led for another game with 221 in the third. Rachmadian, who downed 256, 227 and 252 in his first 3 games, took over the running after another big game of 277 in the fourth. The Thai trailed by 69 pins in second.


Hardy Rachmadian winning the Men's Round 2 finals with a big margin

The Indonesian rolled back-to-back 223 to end the finals with 1457. Arromsaranon settled for second with 1351, 106 pins behind. Nevern Netaneel of Malaysia stormed home to snatch third spot with 1343. Zulmazran Zulkifli of Malaysia made the cut in 12th position with 1266. Supakrit Wantasuk missed the cut by 13 pins finishing 13th. The top 12 advanced to Round 3 finals later today.

Meanwhile Malaysian women again displayed their prowess after Nora Lyana Nastasia led Esther Cheah and Nur Syazwani Sahar to a 1-2-3 finish. Daejeon's Oh Se Ri took the early lead with 250 and 258 in her first 2 games.

Cheah was in second then Nastasia took over second after the second game. Nastasia moved into the lead briefly after the third game but Cheah was quick to make the running after Nastasia posted a poor 176 in the fourth game.

The battle for the win eventually went to Nastasia when she ended the round with 226 and 238 for a total of 1371. Cheah settled for second with 1357, just 14 pins away. Nur Syazwani edged Singapore's Jazreel Tan by 7 pins to claim third spot with 1305.

The cut in ninth position was sealed by another Malaysian, Gillian Lim with 1267. The top 9 advanced to Round 3 finals together with the men at 14:00 hrs local time. The top 6 men and top 6 women at the end of Round 3 will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout Finals immediately after.
