Hong Kong, Philippines bowler tops Asian Ranking table

15th December, Hong Kong: Newly crowned Hong Kong Open champion, Wu Siu Hong and World Championship Trios Gold medalist, Liza del Rosario took over the top positions of the latest Asian Ranking table.


The 19 year-old student from Hong Kong was in second spot before the Hong Kong International Open after capturing the AVIVA Asian Bowling Tour Indonesia Leg. With the win in the prestigious Hong Kong Masters crown, Wu has taken over the lead of the latest Asian Ranking table with 396 points. Wu also finished a creditable third in the subsequent AVIVA ABT Hong Kong leg.

World Championship Masters Gold medalist, Michael Little of Australia who was leading the table for more than two months settled for second spot with 384 followed by 1999 World Cup champion, Ahmed Shaheen of Qatar in third with 359. Australia's Jason Belmonte moved up to 4th from 6th on 280 point after a good showing in the Singapore Open in October with Guam's Duane Camacho in 5th on 264.

Mohd Khalifa Al-Qubaisi (UAE-264), Azidi Ameran (MAS-224) and Saeed Al Hajri (QAT-210) completing the top 8 positions from 6th to 8th respectively.


In the women's division, it's a straight fight between two Filipino lass. World Championship Trios Gold medalist, Liza del Rosario regained the lead with 521 points from teammate, Liza Clutario by 3 points while four-time Asian Bowler of the Year, Shalin Zulkilfi maintained 3rd spot with 459 points. Both the Filipino lass did well to qualify for the ABT Hong Kong leg but it was Rosario who did better finishing 4th both in the Hong Kong Open and the ABT Hong Kong leg.

Newly crowned Hong Kong Open champion, Wendy Chai closed the gap moving up to 4th with 408. Wendy also took the AVIVA ABT Hong Kong leg defeating teamate, Lai Kin Ngoh. Choy Poh Lai (MAS-320), Jennifer Tan (SIN-294), Cecilia Yap (PHI-263) and Lee Eun Ock (KOR-215) are amongst the top 8.

This final top 8 men and women will join the top 8 men and women from American and European zones for the 2004 World Ranking Masters finals scheduled to be held in Moscow, Russia.
