Malaysia emerges as overall champion

31st July, Doha: Malaysia emerged as overall champion of the 24th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships after sweeping the Boy's and Girl's gold medals while Qurratu 'Ain Pozi of Malaysia won her fourth gold in the Girl's All Events and Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait took the Boy's All Events gold.

Sayed Abdullah, Muhammad Hafiz Azhlan, Muhammad Aqil Faizal and Wan Muhammad Zarif Mazlan of Malaysia A team had a slender margin of 22 pins from the first block and saw their lead reduced to just four pins when they started the second block with 811.

Kuwait A team of Adel Ali, Hussain Qasem, Saleh Aladsani and Nasser Alkandari shot 829 but stayed in second. Qatar B Team's Abdulla Al Dosary, Hamad Al Abdulla, Hassan Al Muraikhi and Abdulrahman Al Doseri shot 820 to remain in third.

Malaysia A fought back brilliantly with 915 to open up a big gap of 122 pins. Kuwait A and Qatar B managed only 797 and 777 respectively and posed no threat to the leader with one game left to play.


Boy's Team champion, Malaysia A

However, the leader almost handed the gold to Kuwait A when they ended poorly with 753 and a total of 5198 but hung on to win their first gold medal. Kuwait A rolled 873 and failed to overhaul the Malaysian quartet, only 2 pins behind with 5196. Qatar B put off a late challenge from the second Malaysian team to clinch the bronze medal with 5052.

Overnight first block leader of Adelia Nur Syazalee, Natalie Chong, Intan Nor Azliman and Qurrau 'Ain Pozi cruised to the comfortable victory in the Girl's Team of 4 to win the gold medal with 4775. Chinese Taipei's Ho Yi-Qing, Li Yi-Rou, Chen Yun-Ying and Huang Hsin-Tsen settled for the silver medal with 4563, 122 pins adrift.

The second Malaysian team of Nurstarafana Amri, Nurul Dayana Suahaidan, Helena Jamal and Balqis Nurdini Khairul snatched the bronze with from China by finishing third with 4456.

China's Sun Luming, Li Yiru (17), Shen Xuxi and Li Yiru (15), who were third most of the way, missed the podium by 35 pins to finish fourth with 4421. Kuwait's quartet finished fifth with 3489.

Qurratu 'Ain Pozi picked up her fourth gold medal after topping the Girl's All Events standings with 3805, 223 pins ahead of two silver medalist, Huang Hsin-Tsen of Chinese Taipei, who settled for the silver medal with 3559. Intan Nor Azliman of Malaysia A took home the bronze medal with 3555.


Boy's and Girls Team of champions, Malaysia A

Kuwait A picked up their first gold medal of the championships after Nasser Alkandari topped the Boy's All Events with 4037. Abdulrahman Al Doseri of Qatar B earned the silver medal with 3960 while perfect-gamer, Muhammad Aqil Faizal took the bronze medal with 3921.

Malaysia were crowned overall champion despite still having two gold in the Masters event to play with a medal haul of 5-0-3. With four gold medal from the Malaysian girls, they have also taken the overall girls champion. Kuwait A, Malaysia A, Vietnam and Qatar A, all having one gold medal each, could emerge as overall boys champion if any one of those countries win the Masters final.

The top 16 boys and top 16 girls in their All Events standings qualified for the Match-play Round-Robin Masters finals. They will bowl 8 head-to-head matches on August 1 and another 7 matches and a position round match on August 2. The top 3 boys and top 3 girls with the highest pinfalls will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals.
