Taiwanese, Malaysian tops Singles qualifying

20th September, Tamuning: Squad A leader, Jake Cheng Hsing-Yueh of Taipei retained overall top spot of the Men Singles qualifying at the 38th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship while ex-international, Ng Yew Hup of Subang Jaya finished led both the Men Senior Singles Squad B and the overall standings.

Cheng had earlier topped the opening squad of the Men Singles with a 4-game total of 887 ahead of Jeffrey Carabeo of Paranaque in second with 865. Chen Kuan Lun of Taichung and Kevin Oliver Cu took third and fourth spots with 839 and 835 respectively.

Aldric Andreo Bathan of Paranaque topped the second squad with 871 followed by Tsai Yu Shuo of Taichung in second with 846. Tsai's team-mate, Chen Kuan Yeh and Ocean Yeung Yat Long of Hong Kong finished third and fourth positions with 823 and 818 respectively.

Cheng retained the overall lead after the two squads scores were combined. Bathan took second position ahead of his team-mate, Carabeo in third. Tsai made the cut for the medal round in fourth, just seven pins ahead of Chen, who missed the cut in fifth.

The top-seed will meet the fourth-seed, Tsai in the first semi-final match over two games while Bathan and Carabeo will face each other in the other all-Paranaque second semi-final. The winner will advance to the gold medal match with the losers being awarded a bronze medal each.

Meanwhile in the Men Senior division, Dave Cruz of Tamuning topped the opening squad with 767 ahead of Gary Chan of Subang Jaya in second with 762. Michael Duenas of Dededo and Eddie Tong of Subang Jaya took third and fourth spots with 734 and 727.

2024 Asian Intercity Masters gold medalist, Ng Yew Hup of Subang Jaya took the second squad with 827 followed by Manny Tagle of Yigo in second with 826. Sam Lam of New Territories and Rick Torres of Dededo ended in third and fourth positions with 822 and 798.

The top four also emerged as the four who will advance to the medal round eliminating the top four of the earlier squad. Ng will meet Torres in the first semi-final match over two games while Tagle will face Lam in the other semi-final match. The winner will advance to the gold medal match with the losers being awarded a bronze medal each.

The medal round matches for both the Men and Men Senior Singles will be contested after the Women and Women Senior complete their qualifying rounds tomorrow at 1:30pm local time.
