Eight advances to Round 4 finals

9th May, Manama: Eight finalists advanced to Round 4 Finals of the 3rd Sheikh Khalid Bin Hamad Bowling Tournament with the top two from each of the four groups in the Round 3 matchplay finals which ended late Friday evening at Funland Bowl.

Top qualifier, Naif Oqab of UAE put in a superb performance winning two and drawing one match to win Group 1 with 7 points and 694 pinfalls. The left-handed Emirati was joined by Bahraini youth, Rashid Aldalhan, who won one and draw one match for 4 points to take up second in the group.

Top local campaigner, Yousif Falah also won two matches and despite losing one match, the lanky Bahraini managed to score 6 points to win Group 4. Kuwaiti youth and perfect gamer, Hassan Qasem joined Yousif for the next round after he ended Round 3 finals with 6 points in second.

Hafiz Zainuddin of Malaysia (49) and Mustafa Almousawi of Kuwait (40) made next round with victory over Mohammad Abdulla of Kuwait (28) in the nine and ten frame tie-breaker after the trio tied the Group 2 with 6 points each.


Round 3 top 8 advancing to Round 4 finals

Jassim Almuraikhi of Qatar won Group 3 with 6 points from two wins while Ivan Tse of Hong Kong defeated Tun Hakim of Malaysia, 58-38 in the nine and ten frame tiw-breaker when the duo tied with 4 points a piece.

In Round 2 finals, Abdulrazzaq Abdulla of Kuwait and Jeremy Wong of Hong Kong finished one-two in Group 1 with 6 points each to advance to the next round. Ivan Tse won all his three matches to advance with 9 points with Hafiz Zainuddin in second with 4 points.

Hassan Qasem and Keith Mark of Hong Kong also booked their spots in Round 3 with 9 and 6 points respectively. Mohammad Abdulla of Kuwait (38) and Tony Wong of Hong Kong (28) made the cut after beating Ahmed Abu Raeesh of Saudi Arabia (26) in a three-way tie breaker in Group 2.

Kuwaitis dominated the 6-games Round 1 finals in the morning. Aseel Alroomi won the round with 1274 pinfalls followed by Mohammad Abdulla in second with 1261 and Adel Ali in third with 1229. Two Emiratis, Ahmed Almahri and Obaid Alsaad finished fourth and fifth with 1192 and 1176 respectively.

Ivan Tse, Ahmed Abu Raeesh and Abdulrezzaq Abdulla made the next round from sixth and eighth positions. Sultan Almasri of Saudi Arabia and Hassan Alzaabi of UAE both missed the cut by five pins with 1159 each.


Round 2 top 8 advancing to Round 3 finals

Round 4 finals will see the top 8 divided into two groups over three matches. The top 2 from each group will proceed to the semi-finals with the winner of Group A facing the second-placed finisher of Group B and the winner of Group B facing the second placed finisher of Group A.

The winner of the one-match semi-finals will proceed to the title match and potentially pocking the top prize of BD7,500 (approx. US$19,600) while the losers will square off in the 3rd and 4th place play-offs.
