Saudi Arabia wins second gold

13th May, Doha: The first pair of Mohammed Alsaud and Abdulmajeed Alaslani won Saudi's second gold medal of the 4th GCC Games Bowling Championship with a commanding victory in Doubles event while host, Qatar 1 earned the silver medal and Kuwait 2 took home the bronze.

The third Qatari pair of Abdulrahman Aldoseri and Jassim Almuraikhi set a cracking pace with an opening game of 448 to lead the third Saudi pair of Singles gold medalist, Abdulrahman Alkheliwi and Ahmed Abualreesh by 18 pins. The first Qatari pair of Talal Almarri and Bader Alsada was another 18 pins away in third.

Qatar 3 added another superb 445 in their second game to extend their lead over Saudi Arabia 3 to 31 pins. The second Kuwaiti pair of Mostafa Almousawi and Faisal Saleem moved into third. A respectable 412 in the third game allowed the Kuwaiti pair to take over the running briefly.

Saudi first pair of Alsaud and Alaslani took over second spot as Qatar 3 slipped down to third and Saudi Arabia 3 down to fourth. Alsaud shot a stunning 278 and Alaslani adding 217 to give the Saudi a splendid 495 fourth game to become the new leader.

Qatar 1 bounced back with 467 to move back up to second, 105 pins adrift while Kuwait 2 took fourth spot. Despite a moderate 406 from the Saudi, they remained in the lead albeit having their lead reduced to 44 pins. Saudi Arabia 1 ended strongly with 423 to seal the gold medal with 2562.

Qatar 1 settled for the silver medal with 2481 while Kuwait 2 won their first medal of the championship with 2467 for the bronze. Early pace-setter, Qatar 3 missed the podium after finishing fourth with 2455.

Mr Talal Altowereb, President of Saudi Bowling Federation presented the medals to the winners while Mr Saeed Alhajri, Committee Member of Qatar Bowling Federation gave away the mascots.

Competition will shift to the Trios event tomorrow which will be contested over two blocks of three games each. The Team of 5 will be held on May 15 and 16 over two blocks of three game each. The top 12 based on their All Events standings after 24 games, will advance to the Masters finals.
