Japanese bags Men's Grade B Masters crown

16th April, Bangkok: Debutant, Naoki Tachibana of Japan had a narrow victory in the Men's Grade B Masters finals of the 50th MWA-Thailand International Open Bowling Championships ahead of Le Hoang Khoi of Vietnam in second and newly-crowned Men's Grade A champion, Chen Kuan Lun of Chinese Taipei in third.

Lee Cheng En of Chinese Taipei set the early pace to lead the field with a scintillating 268, 11 pins ahead of fellow-countrymen, Chen Kuan Lun in second. Aqif Danial Bin Shaifulazmi of Malaysia was third with 230. Chen shot into the lead with 214 in his second game.

Lee Jong Seng of Korea moved into second with 237 following his 225 opener. Lee slipped down to third. Newcomer, Naoki Tachibana of Japan rolled a big game of 267 in the third game to take over the running. Chen trailed in second, 12 pins adrift.

The Japanese added 234 at the halfway mark to continue to lead the pack. Lee moved up to second while Chen dropped down to third. Le Hoang Khoi shot back-to-back 256 to become the new leader. The Korean trailed in second, 14 pins behind.

Lee took over the lead after the sixth game ahead of the recovering Japanese in second, 9 pins adrift. The Vietnamese slipped down to third. Tachibana shot a superb 268 to regain his lead after the seventh game. Le trailed in second.

Tachibana ended with 226 to take a well-deserved victory with 1865. Le finished second with 1854, just 11 pins behind. Chen bounced back to take up third position with 1827. Two Taiwanese, Loh Wei-Chen and Lee Cheng En rounded out the top five with 1763 and 1758 respectively.

Tachibana picked up 80,000 Thai baht as champion. Le earned 40,000 baht as first-runner-up while Chen took home 20,000 baht as second runner-up.
