6th May, Taoyuan: Jeon Hae Min of Korea topped Squad B in the first block of five games qualifying rounds of the 3rd Formosa International Bowling Classic 2026 followed by Yoshinao Shimoji of Japan in second and another Korean, Choi Jung Woo in third.

Debutant, Yoshinao Shimoji of Japan set a cracking pace with 278 in his opening game to lead Zhuang Dong Han of Chinese Taipei by 17 pins. Ex-international, Michael Mak of Hong Kong, China rolled 243 for third spot and Cham Soon Meng of Singapore in fourth with 242.

Ryu Je Ho of Korea added 237 to his 238 opener to take over the lead, just one pin ahead of Shimoji who managed 196. A second Korean, Kang Myung Jin, who had 241 in his first game, downed 216 to move into third spot. Zhuang slipped down to fourth.

The Japanese bounced back with 228 in his third game to regain the lead. Chen Wei Chia of Chinese Taipei fired 248 and 251 to leapfrog into second as Kang dropped down to third. Shimoji held the lead after a fifth game of 247 but Jeon stormed home with a big game of 290 to snatch top spot with 1198.

Shimoji settled for second with 1162 followed by two more Koreans, Chou Jung Woo and Kang in third and fourth positions with 1150 and 1142 respectively. Squad C and Squad D will contest their first block of five games at 17:00hrs and 21:00hrs later this evening. Players will bowl two additional blocks of 5 games qualifying round each in the next two days.
