Asia rules Women's Team, Europe shines in Men's

3rd December, Hong Kong, China: Malaysia, Korea, Japan and USA made the Women's semi-finals of the HKGX 2025 IBF World Championships while Germany, Sweden, Korea and France made the Men's Team semi-finals to be at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium, Wancai, Kowloon on December 5.

Malaysia, who had Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee winning the Singles silver medal, had failed to make headway in the Doubles and Trios event. They more than made up for their setback by bouncing back to made the Women's Team of 5 semi-finals as top-seed.

They were the only team in Group A Round 2 Matchplay round who did not have to get involved in a tie-breaker when they amassed 15 points from five wins. Singapore finished second, USA third, Korea third and Japan fourth with 12 points each and had to move into a one-game four-way tie-breaker for three teams to join Malaysia.

Korea shot 215, USA 200 and Japan 197 to advance as third, second and fourth respectively while Singapore managed only 174 and crashed out. Malaysia will face Japan and USA will square off with Korea in the Women's semi-finals tomorrow at Queen Elizabeth Stadium.

In the earlier 7-games qualifying round, Singapore topped the field with 1457 followed by USA in second with 1455 and Korea third with 1425. Chinese Taipei made Round 2 in eighth position with 1338 behind Macao, China in seventh with 1344.

Meanwhile in the men's division, Germany won five matches in Round 2 to firm up their spot in the Tea of 5 semi-finals as top-seed. Korea finished second, Sweden third, Macao, China third and France fourth with 12 points each forcing a one-game four-way tie-breaker for three teams to join Germany.

Sweden down 257, Korea 242 and France 205 to advance as second, third and fourth seeds respectively as Macao was eliminated with 194. Germany will meet France and Sweden and Korea will battle it out with Korea in the Men's semi-finals at the stadium on December 5.

Finland topped the earlier 7-game qualifying round with 1581 but ended seventh in the Round 2 Matchplay. Sweden and Korea finished second and third with 1565 and 1555 respectively. Denmark squeezed into Round 2 as the cut in eighth position in 1497.

The Trios medal rounds for both the men and women divisions will be held at the Queen Elizabeth Stadium tomorrow December 4 commencing 12:20 local time and will end with the medal ceremony. The Team of 5 medal rounds will be held on December 5 at the same venue.
