National bowlers leads first block qualifying

10th September, Kuching: 2023 second runner-up and second perfect-gamer, Tsen Yew Fan of Sarawak led the Open Division first block of qualifying round of the Sarawak International Open Bowling Championships underway at Megalanes Sarawak.

2025 IBF World Cup Team gold medalist, Ahmad Muaz got off the block with the tournament's first 300 in his opening game to lead Tsen, who had 290, by ten pins. Another national bowler, Muhammad Danial Abu Samah followed in third with a respective 279.

Tsen then reeled in 12 consecutive strikes to register the second 300 and took over the lead. 2025 Kuala Lumpur International Open and National Podium Squad member, Izz Naqiuddin Putera moved into second by adding 268 to his 270 opener. Muaz shot 237 to slip down to third while Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin and Muhammad Danial occupied fourth and fifth spots.

The leader went on to end the block with 223 and 233 and topped the squad with 1066, averaging a whopping 266.50. Muhammad Danial finished strong with 225 and 259 to take up second with 1028. 2025 IBF World Cup Singles gold medalist, Natasha Roslan finished third with 1022.


Second perfect gamer and Open Division leader, Tsen Fan Yew

In the second squad, Norman Fadhli Bin Abdul Rahman of Sarawak led the field with 1022 to tie with Natasha in fourth overall. Ahmad Azriq Isamuddin and Muhammad Zharfan Bin Shaidi of Sunway Megalanes finished second and third to the Sarawakian.

Squad C saw ex-international, Megat Zaqrul Haiqal Bin Megat Zairudin of FND Empire posted a moderate 996 for the lead and ended up in eighth position overall. Mohd Amirul Syafiq and Muhamad Nurzul Mubarak completed the top three with 969 and 954.

Thailand's Puntep Bhayakaporn led the fourth and final squad of the day with 959 ahead of two Hong Kong nationals, Keith Mark and newcomer, Ocean Yeung taking up second and third with 953 and 925 respectively.

Squad B leader, Norman Fadhli led the overall Classified Division with his 1022 total followed by Ayden Kam Zhi Ying of Singapore in second with 1016 while Adriana Ramiza Binti Ramulo of Sarawak occupied third overall with 1015.

The new 30 and Under Division (3DU) lead also belong to the Open Division leader, Tsen Fan Yew with 1046, less the handicap he received in the Open division. Norman Fadhli and Muhammad Danish Bin Mahmud of Penang, Malaysia finished second and third overall with 1022 and 1020 respectively.

The bowlers will resume with their second block of four games tomorrow. The top 60 in the Open Division, the top 60 in the Classified Division and the top 60 in the 3DU Division will qualify for their respective Masters Finals on September 12 and 13.

The top 3 finishers in the 3DU Masters finals will proceed to the stepladder shootout finals to determine the winners. The top 3 finishers in the Classified Masters finals will be declared the winners while the top 4 finishers in the Open Division will proceed to the "Last Man Standing" stepladder shootout finals with the last man declared as champion.
