8th September, Kuching: 2026 Hong Kong Open champion, Nur Syazwani Sahar of Malaysia topped the first block opening squad of the Open Division at the Sarawak International Open Bowling Championships 2026 underway at Megalanes Emart ahead of Izz Nadiuddin Putera in second and first perfect-gamer, Tsen Fan Yew third.
Newly-crowned Hong Kong Open champion, Ahmad Muaz Bin Mohd Fishol had a brilliant start with an opening game of 289 to lead Malaysian National Podium squad member, Sin Li Jane by seven pins. Other Malaysians registering big games were Nurul Anis Nabila with 268 and Gillian Lim with 266.
Muaz added 232 in his second game to remain in the lead albeit just one pin ahead of 2026 World Youth Mixed Team gold medalist, Adania Binti Mohd Redzwan of Malaysian National Pelapis squad in second. Adelia Nur Binti Irwan Syazalee moved up to third.
With back-to-back 258s and adding 210 in her third game, Adelia shot into the lead. Adania remained in second with a decent 224 while Muaz managed only 195 to slip away. Izz Naqiuddin almost topped the squad after ending with 258 for a 1011 total.
Block 1 Squad A leader, Nur SYazwani Sahar
But it was Nur Syazwani, who stormed home with 237 and 259 to snatch top spot with 1015 and Izz Naqiuddin settling for second. Tsen Fan Yew shot the tournament's first 300 in his fourth game to clinch third position with 998. Malaysian National Pelapis squad member from Kuala Lumpur, Muhammad Aiman Syahin and early pace-setter, Muaz rounded out the top five with 994 and 984 respectively.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Qaish Rayyan topped the Classified Division with 947 ahead of Izz Khalifah Bin Halifife and Muhammad Isyraq Iqbal in second and third with 903 and 887 respectively. Izz Naqiuddin led the 3DU Division of this squad with 1011. In the U21 Division, Muhammad Aiman Syahin led with 974 followed by Nur Aleeya Syakirah in second and Adelia Nur Binti Irwan in third. In the newly-created Challenger Crown Division, Muhammad Qaish Rayyan led with 927.
Squad B and Squad C first block of four games will be contested later today. Qualifiers will have a chance to improve their lowest of the four games with the special one-game Joker Squad, which will be held at 7.00 pm local time.
