Korean women pro takes over lead

23rd May, Busan: Korean women professional, Yun Huiyeo took over the lead of the standings after three squads by winning Squad C qualifying rounds of the 2018 PBA-WBT Busan Cup International Bowling Tournament.

Yun had a moderate start with 228 in her opening game and had to share seventh spot when KPBA's Lee Youngjun took the early lead with 263. Others who were ahead Yun were KPBA's Kang Minhwan, Indonesia's Hengki Susanto, KPBA's Kim Yonghan with 254, 245 and 244 respectively.

Lee had to share the lead after the second game with Kang despite posting 257 as Kang rolled 266. 2017 Philippine Open champion, Kenneth Chua of Philippines moved up into third, just one pin ahead of Hengki.

The Indonesian took over the lead after another superb game of 258. Ex-Korean national and winner of multiple gold medals at World Championships and Asian Games, Son Yunhee leapfrog into second spot as the early leaders dropped their pace.

Yu Seonghee snatched the lead after the fourth game but was unable to fend off the challenges from others. Yun knocked down a stunning 279 to win the squad with 1234. KPBA's Choi Wonyoung stormed home with 279 and 234 to snatch second spot with 1201.

Yu settled for third position with 1195 while Kang and Hengki completed the top 5 with 1194 and 1178. Lee and the Filipino finished sixth and seventh positions respectively. Song Inbae clinched the cut at 11th position with 1101, averaging 220.2.

Yun's 1234 took her to the top of the standings after three squads. Squad A winner, Kim Seongmin of KPBA slipped one spot to second with 1225 followed by Squad B winner, EJ Tackett of Huntington, Ind., in third with 1222.

KPBA's Jeong Hojeong and Oh Sanghyeon of Cheonan rounded out the top 5 with 1217 and 1207 respectively. The fourth and final squad will end the the first block qualifying rounds over five games.

The players will resume with their second block of 5 games tomorrow. The top 11 from each squad will advance to the next round finals which will take place on May 25. The top 44 qualifiers in the Women's Division and top 44 qualifiers in the General Division will contest their 6-games finals on May 25.

The top 44 finishers oin the Open Division will contest their Final round on May 26 and the top 4 finishers will proceed to the Stepladder shootout finals to be telecast LIVE by SBS Sports from the Outdoor Arena @ Busan Metropolitan City complex.
