Thirty-four countries vying for glory

22nd August, Las Vegas: A total of 179 world-class women bowlers and 94 team officials from thirty-four countries have converged in the vibrant city of Las Vegas, USA for the 2019 World Bowling Women's Championships hosted at South Point Bowling Plaza.

The WB Women's Championships, the most prestigious event of the 2019 bowling calender, returned to Las Vegas, which previously hosted the World Championships for both the men and women in 2017. Six World Bowling member federations from the American Zone (newly-renamed PANAM), 15 member federations from Asian Zone (ABF) and 12 member federations from the European Zone (ETBF) made up the thirty-four countries.

Team officials attended the managers' meeting held at South Point Bowling Plaza chaired by Mr Martin Faba, Tournament Director with Mr Kevin Dornberger, CEO of World Bowling, Mr Marios Nicolaides, Technical Delegate and Ms Megan Tidbury, Public Relations and Marketing Director for World Bowling.

The meeting started off with a roll-call during which the technical handbook were distributed containing championships schedule, lane draw for each of the events and official practice starting lanes. The meeting also highlighted important issues such as ball registration, submission of line ups and matters pertaining to the rules and regulations.

Mr Nicolaides stressed the importance of having players register their bowling balls prior to the start of official practice and at the same time released the oiling pattern, World Bowling Seoul 39 feet provided by Kegel LLC, to be used for the championships.

Mr Kevin Dornberger, Dr Danny Santos, Chairman of World Bowling Competition Committee and Ms Beatrice Hunter, official for France have been appointed members of the Jury of Appeal by Sheikh Talal Al-Sabah, President of World Bowling.

Ms Tidbury, announced that World Bowling has appointed Dailymotion as digital media partner, to provide live coverage during the semi-finals and finals of some of the events.

Dailymotion will also provide live video streaming services during the qualifying rounds, highlights, athlete interviews and extra features throughout the championships via dailymotion.com/World_Bowling as well as worldbowling.sport website.

She also announced that a representative from the International Olympic Committee will be attending the championships to gauge the potential for bowling's inclusion in the 2028 Los Angeles Games and urged that teams that do not have players in the finals, to be at the bowling center to provide adequate crowd support.

Official practice will be held tomorrow followed by the opening ceremony. Competition will kick off with the Singles on August 24, Doubles on August 25, Trios event over two blocks of 3 games each on August 26 and the Team of 5 over two blocks of 3 games each on August 28.

The Singles semi-finals and final, the Doubles semi-finals and final and the Trios semi-finals and final will all be held on August 29. The Team of 5 semi-finals and final and the Masters semi-finals and final will be on August 30. The top 24 with the highest pinfalls from a total of 24 games in the All Events standings will qualify for the Masters finals. The Masters Finals Round 1, Round 2 and Round 3 elimination knockout finals will be contested on August 28. A Victory Banquet will be hosted at South Point Hotel Casino.
