Kuwaiti, Korean remains leaders after Day 1

10th July, Incheon: Squad 1 leaders, Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait and Kim Boah of host nation, Korea remained the leaders on Day 1 of the Girl's and Boy's Singles qualifying standings after two squads were contested at the 2024 IBF World Youth Championships on Wednesday.

Alkandari had topped the opening Squad 1 of the Boy's Singles qualifying rounds after the Girls completed their opening squad with 1447 pinfall. Max Lorenz of Germany took second spot with 1421 while Peter Khor of Singapore finished third.

In the second squad, Paul Purps of Germany almost overhauled the Kuwaiti but fell short by 15 pins to settle for second overall with 1432 despite topping the squad. Korea's Shin Jiho, who was setting the pace, slipped behind Purps with 1392.

Kenneth Ramos of the Netherlands finished third in the second squad with 1385. Whilst Alkandari remained the overall leader, Purps claimed second and his team-mate, Lorenz finished third overall. The Korean and Singaporean rounded out the top five.

Meanwhile in the Girl's division, only one squad was held which saw Kim Boah leading the pack with 1298. Adania Mohd Redzwan of Malaysia tied with pace-setter, Arianne Tay of Singapore for second position with 1269. Elin Bergqvist of Sweden and Tiimari Laukkanen of Finland made up the top five of the squad.

The second Girl's squad will take to the lanes tomorrow morning at 9:00am local time. The top 16 finishers based on their total pinfalls in the combined standings will advance to the Matchplay Rounds. They will be divided into two groups of eighth qualifiers and will play 7 round-robin matches.

Players will earn 3 points for a win and 1 point for a draw. The top two with the highest points at the end of the Matchplay round will proceed to the semi-finals. The third and last Boy's squad will contest their qualifying rounds in the afternoon.

Likewise, the top 16 finishers based on their total pinfalls in the combined standings will advance to the Matchplay Rounds. The semi-finals are scheduled to be held on July 18.
