Singapore veterans sweep Senior Masters titles

16th April, Bangkok: Season campaigner, Adam Chew of Syntech Singapore captured the Men's Senior Masters title of the 50th MWA-Thailand International Open Bowling Championships while team-mate, Katherine Ong shot a perfect game en-route to victory in the Women's Senior division.

Nelson Young of Syntech Singapore, got off to a cracking start with a sizzling 278 to lead Siripornchai Narapakwong of Thailand by 21 pins followed by another Singaporean, Rick Tan in third. A third Singaporean, Philip Tang shot into the lead with 235 following his 236 opener.

Tan trailed in second by just one pin as a second Thai, Pollakit Thanasang moved up to third. A fourth Singaporean, Loh Meng Kwang was fourth while Siripornchai dropped off. Pollakit took over the running with 235 in his third game to lead another seasoned veteran, Jack Wong making his bid to take up second.

The Thai continued to lead the pack as Tan recovered to regain second spot. Adam Chew, Wong and Loh trailed the leading duo in third to fifth spots. Chew added 255 in the fifth game before ending on a big game of 290 to seal victory with 1563.

Tan settled for second position with 1447 while Wong ended in third position with 1441. Early pace-setter, Tang finished fourth with 1427 and Young rounded out the top five with 1417. Chew added 255 in the fifth game before ending on a big game of 290 to seal victory with 1563. Chew won 80,000 Thai baht as champion. Tah and Wong took home 40,000 and 20,000 baht respectively.

Meanwhile in the Women's Senior division, Lim Hui Peng of Syntech Singapore took the early lead with 244 followed by Sirilak Thamphithak of Thailand in second. A second Singaporean, Katherine Ong shot 300 in her second game to quickly take over the lead.

Lim trailed by 30 pins in second while a second Thai, Thanyarat Athipongthanachai moved up to third. Ong reeled in 232, 216, 181 and 200 to take a commanding victory with 1306, 71 pins ahead of her compatriot, Lim in second with 1235.

Sirilak bounced back to finish third with 1226. A third Singaporean, Karen Song missed the podium finishing fourth with 1225 while Thanyarat shared fifth spot with compatriot, Nittaya Tevichaphong on 1179. Ong pocketed 30,000 Thai baht as champion. Lim and Sirilak earned 15,000 and 8,000 baht respectively.
