Aussie, Malaysian moves into top spot

30th May, Petaling Jaya: Two-time PBA Tour winner, Sam Cooley of Australia moved into the top of the Open division qualifying leaderboard of the Kuala Lumpur International Open Bowling Championships 2025 while IBF Youth World Cup bound, Adania Redzwan topped the women's division.

Cooley, who won the PBA Springfield Classic in 2023, rolled a perfect game en-route to improving his 694 series with a massive 803 and took over top spot with 1532. Overnight leader and 2013 Malaysian Open champion, Ahmad Muaz settled for second position with 1497.

Early leader and Malaysian National Podium squad member, Izz Naqiuddin Putera also slipped down to third with 1494. Chong Jun Foo of Hero Bowling and Ahmad Aidil of Sunway Megalanes rounded out the top five with 1475 and 1470 respectively.

A few notable Asian stars namely, 2014 Asian Games Singles gold medalist, Yannaphon Larpapharat of Thailand in 13th position with 1438, 2025 IBF World Cup Team Gold medalists, Tun Hakim in sixth with 1467, Timmy Tan in 15th with 1431, Rafiq Ismail in 21st with 1418.

Also making the cut were newly-crowned 2025 Malaysian Open champion, Ethan Damien Goh in 16th with 1430, 2023 Malaysian National champion, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin in 24th with 1405. The cut in 28th position went to Ryan Lalisang of Indonesia with 1392.

Meanwhile, 2024 IBF World Youth Team gold medalist and IBF Youth World Cup bound, Adania Redzwan also moved into the lead of the Women's pool with 1443 after improving her lower 624 series with 727. Overnight leader and National youth, Qurratu'ain Izfihar slipped down to second with 1404.

Early leader, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS, Sarawak finished third with 1401 while Adelia Nur and Faten Najihah completed the top five with 1400 and 1398. Nurul Alyssa Junaidi of Sabah, Nur Hazirah Ramli of ABAS, Sarawak and Shion Izumune of Japan assured their places in the finals in sixth to eighth positions.

The top 8 women and qualifiers position 1 to 28, totaling 36, will contest the 8-game Open division finals on May 1 at 10:00 am local time. Qualifying will end on May 31 at 22:30hrs while the Youth Open will end today at 14:30hrs and the Graded division on May 31 at 14:30hrs.
