Brunei newcomer tops Block 1 second squad

8th September, Kuching: Muhammad Al-Amin Bin Haji Abdul Hamid topped the first block second squad of the Open Division at the Sarawak International Open Bowling Championships 2026 followed by Musayyar Bin Khalid of Malaysia and Sarawakian, Gerald Ethan Anak Tony in second and third.

The newcomer had a dream start kicking off his campaign with a scorching 290 in his opener to lead Muhammad Syazwan Bin Sajeli by 54 pins. Ambrose Hon Nga Pok of Hong Kong and Aviel Chua Jun Jie of Trinity Singapore were third and fourth respectively.

Muhammad Al-Amin followed it up with a superb 236 in the second game to hold a comfortable margin of 46. Sarawakian lass, Nur Fathi Fatihah Binti Mohd Zakry shot 256 following her 214 opener to move into second while 2026 Malaysian Open first runner-up, Chong Jun Foo improved to third.

Despite a 183 in the fourth game which saw his margin being reduced to just eight pins, the leader rounded off with 232 in his final game to take pole position with 981.

Musayyar Bin Khalid stormed home with 226 and 247 to snatch second position with 944 followed by Sarawak youth, Gerald Ethan Anak Tony finishing third with 941. Nur Fathi Fatihah and Darren Chai Yew Hong of Malaysian competed the top five with 939 and 922 respectively.

The last squad of the day is Squad C, which will be contested at 5.00 pm local time. A special one-game Joker squad will follow immediately after the final squad in which qualifiers can improve their lowest game in a hope to improve their total to make the cut for their Masters finals.
