Korea emerges as overall champion

5th September, Petaling Jaya: Korea emerged as overall champion after capturing the TPB1+2+3 gold, silver medals and the TPB8+9+10 gold, silver medals at the concluding 2nd Asian Para Tenpin Bowling Championship while Singapore clinched the TPB4+4+4 gold.

Kim Jin Seop, Cho Young Hwa and Park Jong Hwan gave Korean men their seventh gold medal in the TPB1+2+3 Trios event with 1981 pinfalls. Kim Heung Hwa, Won Byung Yong and Lee Kun Hye added a silver medal to their collection for finishing second with 1961, just 20 pins behind.

Mohd Suhairi Abd Kadir, Ku Izham Ku Harun and Mohd Rizal Hassan of Malaysia settled for the bronze medal with 1921, a further 40 pins away. Hong Kong, China missed the podium by just three pins in fourth.

Korea again finished one-two in the TPB8+9+10 Trios event to win the men's eighth gold medal of the championship after Oh Ki Seok, Heo Myeong Jin and Yoon Hyung Kook amasses a total of 2347. Kim Jong Soon, Park Ji Eun nd Kim Su Yeong picked up the silver with 2280.

Singapore's Kalvin Tay Leong Hock, Low Chang Hong and Matthew David Chan took home the bronze medal with 2252. Hong Kong, China again missed the podium by just three pins after finishing fourth with 2249. Nixon Fan Jun Jie, Diane Neo Pei Lin and Ismail Mohammad Farhan finally won Singapore's first gold medal with victory in the TPB4+4+4 Trios event with 2313 pinfalls.

Malaysia's Muhamad Hazim Sazali, Muhamad Razif Abdul Muiz and Abg Yahya Abg Azhar added a silver medal to their tally with 2303 while Mak Kim Fong, Loi Weng Hin and Sam Kun earned Macau, China's first medal of the championship wiinning the bronze medal with 1793.

Korean women added six golds and one silver from the Women's All Events to emerge as overall women champion with a medal haul of 12-2-0. The men added two golds, one silver and two bronzes from the Men's All Events to finish second in the overall men table with a medal haul of 4-1-5.

Malaysia added two golds, four silvers and one bronze to emerge as overall men champion with a medal haul of 5-6-2. Korea emerged as the overall champion with a total medal haul of 16-3-5. A total of 84 men and 37 women participated in this year's championships.

YBhg Dato Sri Megat Shahriman Bin Dato Zaharudin, President of Paralympic Council of Malaysia presented the overall champion trophy to Korea at the victory banquet hosted by MTBC. YBhg First Admiral Dato' Subramaniam Raman Nair, Secretary General of Paralympic Council of Malaysia presented the overall men champion trophy to Malaysia.

YBhg Tan Sri Sato' Seri Mohamad Noor Abdul Rahman, President of Asian Petanque presented the overall women champion trophy while YBhg Dao' Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah, President of MTBC presented souvenirs to the participating ten countries.

A total of 84 men and 37 women participated in this year's championships at Sunway Megalanes, Petaling Jaya. men and women athletes competed in the Singles in seven categories. They also contested the six Mixed Doubles categories and the three Mixed Trios categories. All Events medals were also awarded for the men and women division.
