Subang Jaya, Jakarta wins Senior Team gold

14th November, Jakarta: Top-seed Subang Jaya third-seed and challenger, Selayang in the final to win the Senior Women's Team of 4 gold medal at the 37th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship as second-seed, Jakarta ousted top-seed, New Territories to bag the Senior Men's Team of 4 gold.

Jakarta's Suwito Suriani, Sukinto Wijaya, Ruslimnoor Linuar and Irsan Djundjung defeated New Territories' Sam Lam Kun, William, Fung, Sando Tang Chi Cheong and Singles gold medalist, Henry Hui, 237-200 in the final to seal the gold medal.

The champion had earlier narrowly ousted third-seed, Subang Jaya's Gary Chan Chon Tong, Darren Lau Wai Choon, Eddie Tong Joo Siong and Ken Ng Cheng Keng, 202-198 in the earlier semi-final match. New Teritories dispatched fourth-seed Pasir Ris, 208-188 in the other semi to advance to the final.

New Territories amassed a team total of 2640 in yesterday's preliminary to advance to the medal round. Jakarta finished second with 2626 while Subang Jaya finished third with 2579.


Men's Senior Team of 4 gold medalist, Jakarta

Ong Heng Huat, Richard Low, Lee Soon Kiong and Raymond Tan of Pasir Ris edged Kuala Lumpur by 11 pins to secure their spot in the medal round in fourth position with 2517.

Subang Jaya's Michelle Wong, Poziah Atan, Shirley Burnett and Datin Rakiah Binti Ali won their first gold medal after edging guest city, Selayang, 180-170 in the final. The champion had breezed past Petaling Jaya's Jude Khadijah Binti Jamari, Vivienne Lim, Helen Yaw and Nurisma Binti Mohd Ismail, 212-158 in the semi-finals.

Selayang's Siti Zariah Binti Suradi, Yusriani Binti Habing, Nor Asiah Binti Sani and Rusmawati Binti Din defeated Jakarta's Solena Caslin, Sri Retno Pancaningsih, Andrieza Hanum Fanali and Maulida Marthiana, 198-180 in the other semi to earn their spot in the final match.

Subang Jaya had earlier topped the three-game preliminary with a team total of 2310, 67 pins ahead of Jakarta in second with 2243. Selayang finished third with 2232.

There was a keen fight for the fourth and final spot amongst Petaling Jaya, Kuala Lumpur, Shah Alam and Jeju. Petaling Jaya shot 698 in their third game for a total of 2201. Kuala Lumpur shot 722 but fell short by just two pins to miss the cut.


Women's Senior Team of 4 gold medalist, Subang Jaya

Singles gold medalist, Henry Hui picked up his second gold medal after topping the Men's Senior All Events standings with 2628. Sam Lam Kun gave New Territories a one-two finish by winning the silver medal with 2491. Ong Heng Huat of Pasir Ris took the bronze medal with 2421.

Singles silver medalist, Yang Young Ja of Jeju bagged the Women's Senior All Events gold medal with a 11-game total of 2382. Singles gold medalist, Felinda Grzybowska of Kuala Lumpur settled for the silver medal with 2245. Sri Retno Pancaningsih added a bronze medal for Jakarta in third with 2238.

The top 16 in the Men's and Women's All Events standings qualified for the Masters Elimination Finals over a two-match playoff. The field will be cut to eight where the winners will proceed to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the title match.
