7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships kicks off next week

4th April, Hong Kong: Mei Foo Super Fun Bowl in Kowloon, Hong Kong will soon be filled with the smiling faces and excited voices of more than 96 young bowlers participating in the 7th Asian Schools Tenpin Bowling Championships. The event will be staged from April 7-12, 2004 and is an important pathway for the Zone's young, emerging stars.

Teams of four male and four female bowlers, aged 18 and under and attending secondary or tertiary education, will compete in this popular event. Equipped with 24 AMF synthetic lanes, the Bowling Centre has been carefully prepared by ABF's Tournament Technical Committee - Technical Delegate, Ruben Ghiragossian, Tournament Director, Dr. Danny Santos and the Host Tournament Coordinator, Mr. Fung Tai Kong.

Bowlers, officials and supporters from 9 countries throughout Asia will begin arriving on April 6 in preparation for the Championship. Following Ball Registration and Official Practice between April 6 - 8, and an Official Opening Ceremony and Welcome Reception on April 7, the event will get underway in earnest on Friday, April 9.

Competition in Singles, Doubles, Teams and Masters will continue through to Monday April 12, finishing with a Step-Ladder final at 3.30 pm. A Victory Banquet at The Royal Pacific Hotel & Towers at 8 pm that evening will be a colourful conclusion to the Championship.

The 1st Asian Schools' Bowling Championship 1998 was organised by the Singapore Tenpin Bowling Congress at the Orchid Country Club Bowling Centre in Singapore in April 1998. A total of eight countries participated in that inaugural event and last year's event was hosted by the Malaysia Tenpin Bowling Congress in Penang.
