Malaysia host Asian Youth for third time

20th August, Petaling Jaya: Malaysia play hosts to the 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships which will be held from August 20 to 27, 2025 at Sunway Megalanes where 56 boys, 32 girls and 38 team officials from fourteen countries will take part.

Malaysia hosted their first Asian Youth back in 1996 at Genting Highlands. Their second was in Kuching, Sarawak in 2019. Team officials from Bahrain, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Macau, Philippines, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and host Malaysia attended the managers' meeting in the conference room at Sunway Megalanes.

Mr Maradona Chok, Secretary General of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress welcomed all the officials and expressed his sincere appreciation to their federations for showing support by sending their teams to this championship. Also present were Dr Danny Santos, Tournament Director, Mr John Janawicz, Technical Delegate from Kegel Inc., and En Razif Sazali, Host Tournament Co-Ordinator.

Eight countries have entered full 4 boys and 4 girls teams while six countries have only entered 4 boys teams each making up a total of 56 boys and 32 girls.

Dr Santos kicked off the meeting with a roll-call before going through the technical aspects of the championships which included important rules and regulations, lane draws and the tournament schedule. Mr Janawicz outlined the two oiling patterns that will be used for the championships including highlighting the rules pertaining to ball registration.

Several countries also submitted their final changes to their players' list including spelling changes. For the second time, entries submission will be done online via ABF official website. The first time was during the 2017 Asian Youth in Manila.

For the first time, ABF has also implemented an online ball registration process, again via the official website. A demonstration on how to submit entries online and ball registration was shown to the team officials.

The official opening ceremony will be held on August 21 from 12:00 noon at Sunway Megalanes followed by a welcome reception at 1:00pm local time. Official practice divided into two sessions will follow thereafter at 2.00pm.

Competition will kick off with the Singles on August 22, Doubles on August 23 and the Team events over two blocks of 3 games each will be staged on August 24 and 25. The top 16 boys and top 16 girls in their respective All-Events standings (18 games) will qualify for the Masters finals on August 26 and 27.

The top 3 boys and top 3 girls at the end of the two blocks Masters Finals will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals. ABF will be live streaming the opening ceremony, official practices and all four events throughout the championships.
