21st August, Petaling Jaya: The 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships was officially declared open by Guest of Honour, YBhg Datuk Mohammad Nasir Ali, Secretary General of Olympic Council of Malaysia during the simple ceremony held at Sunway Megalanes on Thursday.

Present alongside the guest of honour were YBhg Dato' Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah, President of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress, Mr Jeong Suk, Vice President of Asian Bowling Federation and President of Korea Bowling Association, Mr Mike Seymour, Chief Executive Officer of the International Bowling Federation, and Ms Ireen Chew, Director of Commercial, Sunway Resorts Group of Hotels.

Other distinguished guests included Mr Tomokatsu Yamashita, Secretary General of Japan Bowling Congress, Ms Bui Kim Ha, Secretary General of Vietnam Bowling Federation, YBhg Tan Sri Dato Mohammed Noor, President of Kuala Lumpur Tenpin Bowling Association and Mr Saeed Al-Hajri, Board Member of Qatar Bowling Federation.

Also present were Mr Maradona Chok, Secretary General of MTBC, Dr Danny Santos, Tournament Director, Mr John Janawicz, Technical Delegate and representatives of the Malaysian National Sports Council, sponsors and partners.

Ms Michelle Wong, emcee for the ceremony, welcomed all present and kicked off proceedings with the introduction of the Guest of Honour and distinguished guests. She then announced the march past of the fourteen participating countries.

Malaysian team members, Muhammad Aiman Syahin and Nurul Anis Nabila took the athletes' oath on behalf of all players while En Razif Sazali, Host Tournament Co-Ordinator took the oath on behalf of all tournament officials.

YBhg Dato Najeeb Abdullah, in his welcome speech, thanked the fourteen member federations by sending their teams to participate in this year's championships and hope that they take home fond memories of their time here in Malaysia.

In the guest of honour's speech, YBhg Datuk Mohammad Nasir Ali gave an inspiring speech to all the participants and extended his best wishes in their conquest of winning honours for their countries. The guests were then entertained by dancers from the Petaling Jaya City Council which was followed by the guest of honour rolling a bowling ball to mark the opening.

All guests then adjourned to a welcome reception buffet lunch at Sunway Megalanes. The official practice will follow and the first squad will commence at 2.00pm and the second squad at 4:30pm.

Competition will kick off with the Singles on August 22, Doubles on August 23 and the Team events over two blocks of 3 games each will be staged on August 24 and 25. The top 16 boys and top 16 girls in their respective All-Events standings (18 games) will qualify for the Masters finals on August 26 and 27.
