Hong Kong, Shah Alam captures Team gold

14th November, Jakarta: Hong Kong defeated top-seed, Ulsan in the final match to win the Men's Team of 4 gold medal at the 37th Asian Intercity Bowling Championship while Shah Alam outclassed Petaling Jaya in the Women's Team of 4 final to win their third gold.

Hong Kong's Wong Hui Fung, Choi Kwan Ho, Lam Ka Yiu and Wong Chun Ming were on a strike-fest reeling in ten consecutive strikes to romp home a 289-267 victory over Ulsan's Park Sang In, Choi Won Seok, Lee Jae Jung and Hwang Dong Wook in the final match.

Second-seed Hong Kong had earlier rolled an identical 289 to dispatch Jakarta's Charlie Christian, Pradana Yogatama, Paolo M. Hernandez and Patrick M. Hernandez in the semi-finals.

Ulsan had a narrow victory over fourth-seed, Subang Jaya's Syed Muhd Hafiz Syed Hussein, Yusuf Abdul Raof, Zaid Izlan Ibrahim Hakimi and Singles silver medalist, Muhd Nur Aiman, 229-224 to advance to the final.


Men's Senior Team of 4 gold medalist, Hong Kong

Ulsan secured top spot for the medal round with a three-game team total of 2803 contested this morning. Hong Kong finished second with 2703, 100 pins adrift. Jakarta totaled 2641 to take up third spot while Subang Jaya clinched fourth spot with 2620.

In the Women's division, Shah Alam's Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani, Adlin Nadhirah Ghazali, and Doubles gold medalists, Nurul Ayunni Junaidi and Nurul Alyssa Junaidi again denied Petaling Jaya and top-seed their third attempt at winning the gold.

Shah Alam displayed their class after defeating Petaling Jaya's Anis Hannani Binti Romzi, Afiqah Nurhabreyah, Puteri Nurul Dini and twice silver medalist, Faten Najihah Bte Ahmad Faik, 275-200 in the final. The champion had an easy victory over third-seed, Paranaque's Julianne Marri Lacson Ramirez, Norel Conzales Nuevo, Alyssa Louise Gutierrezty and Maria Lourdes Cruz Arles, 220-167 in the semi-finals.

Petaling Jaya also easily defeated Pasay's Kaygen Urbano Itaralde, Sofia Isabela Dytoc, Patricia Anne Baradi Carabeo and Jazqueline Maguisara Sadiua, 205-169 in the other semi to advance to the title match.

Petaling Jaya led from start to finish in the earlier three-game preliminary with 2641 team total. Shah Alam totaled 2560 to take second spot. Paranaque finished third with 2336 while Pasay edged Jakarta by 18 pins to advance to the medal round in fourth.


Women's Team of 4 gold medalist, Shah Alam

Muhd Nur Aiman of Subang Jaya finally picked up his first gold medal by topping the Men's All Events standings with 2798 (from 11 games). Singles gold medalist, Paolo M. Hernandez of Jakarta earned the silver medal with 2752. Timmy Tan of Shah Alam took the bronze medal with 2621.

After settling for two silver medals in the Singles and Doubles events, Faten Najihah picked her first gold medal of the championship after finishing first in the Women's All Events standings with 2704. Her team-mate, Anis Hannani earned her second silver medal by finishing second with 2493.

Two gold medalist, Nurul Alyssa Junaidi of Shah Alam took the bronze medal with 2411. Zatil Iman Abdul Ghani of SHah Alam missed the podium in fourth with 2386.

The top 16 in the Men's and Women's All Events standings qualified for the Masters Elimination Finals over a two-match playoff. The field will be cut to eight where the winners will proceed to the quarter-finals, semi-finals and the title match.
