Fourth hosting for Hong Kong

23rd July, Hong Kong: Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress will host the NTGCC 16th Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships for the fourth time from July 25 to 31, 2015 at South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Centre.

HKTBC first hosted the championships back in 2004, the second in 2007 and the third in 2009. The championships is funded by the Arts and Sport Development Fund of the Home Affairs Bureau and Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

But most importantly, HKTBC is fortunate to have New Territories General Chamber of Commerce (NTGCC) and its sixteen members consenting to be the generous Title Sponsor of this year's event. NTGCC is also celebrating their 55th Anniversary coinciding with the championships.

A total of 13 countries and territories comprising of 34 teams made up of 76 boys and 58 girls bowlers from Asia will be vying for honours for their nation in Singles, Doubles, Team of Four, All Events and the prestigious Masters.

There will be a one-hour delayed broadcast of the highlights of the championships including the Masters finals on TVB Jade channel. A series of promotional and publicity activities have been organised to create awareness in the Hong Kong community including demonstration and coaching clinic supported by the Hong Kong Jockey Club for the ethnic minority students/physicaly disabled and mentally handicapped athletes/under-privileged children students and a Charity Bowling Tournament.


The Malaysian National Youth team has accepted our invitation to come earlier to assist in the promotional activities together with the Hong Kong National Youth team and will provide useful tips to the participating students/athletes.

This was annouced at the press conference cum luncheon held today at Regal Hong Kong Hotel graced by Dr Haywood Cheung, President of New Territories General Chamber of Commerce, Mr Eddie Poon, Head of Community Relations of the Hong Kong Jockey Club, and Dr James Lam, JP, Chairman of Hong Kong Paralympic Committee & Sports Association for the Physically Disabled.

Also present were Dr Andrew Lam, Healthy Athletes Program Director of Hong Kong Special Olympics, Ms Maisy Ho, Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Dr Lee Yuk Lun, JP, 2nd Vice Chairman of Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, and Ms Vivien Lau, BBS, JP, Chairman of HKTBC, Honorary Life President of Asian Bowling Federation and secretary general of World Bowling.

Distinguished guests which included personnels from NTGCC, Tung Wah Group of Hospitals, Arts and Sport Development Fund of the Home Affairs Bureau, Leisure and Cutural Services Department. Also present were several Honorary Life Presidents and Honorary Presidents of HKTBC.

More demonstration and coaching clinic for youths from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals and Po Leung Kuk will be held tomorrow at SCAA Bowling Centre commencing at 10.00am. On July 25, there will be a Charity Bowling Tournament, jointly organised by NTGCC, HKTBC and Tung Wah Group of Hospitals also at SCAA Bowling Centre commencing at 1.45pm.

Asian students come together

23rd June, Hong Kong: Hong Kong will play host for the fourth time, the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships from July 25 - 31, 2015 at the South China Athletic Association (SCAA) Bowling Centre.

Hong Kong first hosted the Asian School Tenpin Bowling Championships in 2004, and then in 2007 as well as in 2009. We expect a participation of around 15 countries and territories with more than 130 athletes and 50 officials as well as overseas supporters.

The Championships is funded by the Arts and Sport Development Fund of the Home Affairs Bureau and supported by Leisure and Cultural Services Department.

Hong Kong Tenpin Bowling Congress (HKTBC) is most fortunate to have New Territories General Chamber of Commerce (NTGCC) and its sixteen members consenting to be the Title Sponsor of this Championships.

This is the first time NTGCC sponsors a sport event. This year NTGCC is also celebrating their 55th Anniversary. A series of promotional activities will be organized to create awareness in the community and among the districts of Hong Kong. HKTBC has specially invited the Malaysian National Team to come to Hong Kong earlier to participate in these activities.


They include demonstration as well as coaching clinic supported by The Hong Kong Jockey Club for athletes of the Hong Kong Paralympic Committee and Sports Association for the Physically Disabled, the Hong Kong Special Olympics, Ethnic Minorities youth and students, secondary school students from the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals (TWGHs) and youth and orphans from Po Leung Kuk.

There will also be a Charity Bowling Tournament co-organized by HKTBC, NTGCC and TWGHs to raise fund for TWGHs "Support Scheme for Elite Sport and Art Students".

All these activities will be held on three consecutive days in the official venue, SCAA Bowling Centre before the actual Championships commences on July 26.

Events in the Championships consist of Singles, Doubles, Team of Four, All Events and Masters. There will be a one-hour delayed broadcast of the highlights of the Championships including the finals of the Masters event on TVB Jade. Up till now, 12 countries and territories have confirmed their participation.

With so many top young bowlers from all over Asia, we could expect a very thrilling and exciting competition in the five-day championships in Hong Kong showcasing the prowess of our Asian students as well as showing to the public how popular our sport is among schools not only in Hong Kong but also in the rest of Asia.
