Indonesia hosts Asian Junior for fourth time

22nd August, Jakarta: Asian Junior Bowling Championships returned to Indonesia for the fourth time when 89 boys and 36 girls from fifteen federations will be vying for glory from August 22 - 30, 2027 at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center.

Indonesia first hosted the premier event in 2005, then in 2012 and 2014 before playing host once again this year. The Asian Junior Bowling Championships is one of the most popular junior championships for youth under the age of 18 where they will showcase their skills for the first time for some and another opportunity for others.

Bahrain, China, Hong Kong, India, Pakistan, Kuwait, Macau, Malaysia, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand, Chinese Taipei, Vietnam and host Indonesia are the participating federations. Bahrain, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Kuwait, Philippines, Qatar, Singapore, Thailand and Chinese Taipei have two boys team each. China, Kuwait, Malaysia, Philippines and Singapore have one girls team each.

Team officials attended the managers' meeting held at Discovery Ancol Hotel, chaired by Dr Danny Santos, Tournament Director, with Mr Gatot Aryo Nugroho, Host Tournament Co-Ordinator and Mr John Janawicz, Technical Delegate from Kegel Inc.

Ms Vivien Lau, SBS, JP., Honorary Life President of Asian Bowling Federation (ABF) thanked all team officials on behalf of His Excellency, Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah, President of IBF/ABF during her welcome speech at the start of the meeting.

Dr Santos got the meeting underway by conducting a roll call of the participating federations. He also re-iterated and explained that medals won by Team A (for federations with two teams) will only count toward the overall champion award but players from either team can win medals for the events competed.

The meeting also covered some important aspects of the championships, schedule of events, lane assignments and other matters pertaining to the playing rules and ball registrations.

His Excellency, Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah has appointed Ms Vivien Lau, Mr Michael Seymour, CEO of IBF and Mr Hasrial Arimis, Secretary General of Persatuan Boling Indonesia (PBI) as members of the Jury of Appeal.

The official practice sessions, divided into two squads will be held tomorrow, August 23 commencing at 10.00am local time. The official opening ceremony will be held at Jaya Ancol Bowling Center at 5.00pm.

Competition will kick off with the Singles event for boys and girls divided into two squads on Monday, August 24 followed by the Doubles for boys and girls divided into two squads on Tuesday, August 25. The Team of Four over two blocks of 3 games each will be contested on August 26 and 27.

The top 16 boys and top 16 girls based on their All Events standings (18 games) will qualify for the Matchplay Round-Robin Masters Finals, over 8 games in the first block on August 28 and 7 games plus a position round match in the second block on August 29.

The top 3 boys and top 3 girls based on their total pinfalls plus bonuses will proceed to the Stepladder shootout finals. Live video streaming and live scoring will be available throughout the championships including the opening ceremony.
