Singaporean takes over top spot

17th April, Bangkok: 2017 champion, New Hui Fen of Singapore took over top spot of the Women's Open overall qualifying standings after leading the first block of Squad C at the 50th MWA-Thailand International Open Bowling Championships as Aiman Racdyn Lim Jen of Singapore moved into second overall in the Men's division.

Brian Ngoi Kai Ren of Singapore started off brilliantly with a superb 276 in his opening game to lead team-mate, Basil Dill Ng by 41 pins. Aiman Lim was third with 225. Ngoi added a moderate 214 and 242 in his second and third games to continue to lead the pack.

Timothy Tham downed 253 to take up second but a 198 in the third dropped him off. Aiman Lim managed 188 in the second game but bounced back in style with a stunning 290 to take up second, 29 pins adrift. Another good game of 257 gave Aiman Lim the lead after the fourth.

Ngoi slipped to second 52 pins behind while Tham recovered to take up third. The leader ended with 191 to seal top spot in this squad with 1151. Muhd Jaris Goh stormed home to snatch second position with 1113. Basil Dill Ng finished third with 1084.


Block 1 Squad C leader, Aiman Racdyn Lim Jen

With four squads completed their first block, Lam Nok Him of Macau, China remained in pole position of the overseas pool in the overall standings. Aiman Lim's effort moved him into second while Squad B leader, Hiroki Tachibana of Japan took third.

Vilinkorn Kledkaew, Rattanapat Chatchaisiri and Sasitha Kaewklom of Thailand were the top 3 occupiers of local pool. The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers in the overall standings will earn a bye and skip Round 2 Finals.

In the Women's division, it was a total Singapore affair. Quek Lu Yi took the early lead with 216, five pins ahead of Nur Irdina Binte Hazly in second and Jerlyn Lam Si Ting inn third. Hazel Tan Wei Ning took over the lead briefly after the second game but New Hui Fen quickly surged into the lead after the third game.

Her team-mate, Bernice Lim also took a brief lead after the fourth game with New in second but New ended strongest with 255 to snatch top spot in Squad C with 1100. Lim settled for second with 1077 while Ning Tay stormed home to take third spot with 1014.

New became the new overall leader in the overseas pool after all squads have completed their first block. Lim also finished second overall while Squad A leader, Sin Li Jane slipped down to third.

Yanee Saebe, Chanakorn Wutti and Pinmanus Khumchaipoom of Thailand occupied the top 3 local pool qualifiers. The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers in the overall standings will earn a bye and skip Round 2 Finals.

The bowlers will resume with their second block of five games tomorrow and the final five games on April 19. Round 2, Round 3 Finals and Stepladder Finals will be held on April 20.
