22nd August, Petaling Jaya: Singapore swept the Singles gold medals of the 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships after Aiman Raedyn Lim Jen snatched the Boy's Singles title in his final game while Hazel Tan Wei Ning claimed the Girl's crown.

Korea's Kim Woo Jin had a cracking start with 259 in his opening game to lead 2025 Asian Junior Doubles gold medalist, Talal Al Marri of Qatar by 11 pins followed by Aiman Lim in third with 246 and Philippines' Aldric Andreo Bathan in fourth, a further two pins away.

Kim added a stunning 279 in his second game and another sizzling 299 to open up a huge gap of 100 pins from his team-mate, Bae Jung Hun in second and another Korean, Bae Su Hyeon in third. Kim then stumbled to a disastrous 162 but kept his lead.

A fourth Korean, Bae Su Hyeon downed 290 and 221 in the third and fourth game to narrow the gap to 60 pins whilst the Qatari bounced back to share third spot with Bae Jung Hun. Both Bae Su Hyeon and Aiman Lim shot 267 in the fifth game to stay in the lead with the Singaporean in second, 29 pins adrift.

It all came down to final game and Su Hyeon was anxiously watching his nearest rival, Aiman Lim was on fire reeling strike after strike and putting pressure on the Korean. Lim went on to end the sixth game with 249 to seal victory with 1436.

Bae managed only 206 and held on to second to settle for the silver with 1422. Al Marri ended strongly with 246 to clinch the bronze medal with 1400. Abdulrzzaq Mohamad of Kuwait made a late bid but missed the podium by 20 pins to finish fourth.

Earlier in the morning, Malaysians Adania Mohd Redzwan and 2025 Asian Junior Doubles and Team gold medalist, Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee started well to occupy first and second spots with Korea's Paek Ye Dam in third.

Singapore's Shirlene Wong Xue Lin quickly took over the running after she added 279 to her 203 opener. 2025 Asian Junior five gold medalist, Qurrau Ain Izdihar of Malaysia moved into second spot, 12 pins adrift as the other two Malaysian dropped their pace.

Paek took over the lead briefly after the third game but her lead was soon taken over by Japan's Ako Takahashi after the fourth game. Hazel Tan, who had a poor start with 178, gradually made up grounds with 237, 236 and 237 to take up second spot.

The 18-year-old debutant ended with 224 and 216 to win Singapore's first gold medal of the championships with 1328. Paek settled for the silver with 1297 while Qurratu Ain Izdihar earned the bronze medal with 1293. Shirlene Wong missed the podium for finishing fourth, just three pins away.

YBhg Dato' Mohammed Najeeb Abdullah, President of Malaysian Tenpin Bowling Congress was on hand to present the medals to the Girl's Singles winners while Ms Bong Coo, Philippines National Sports Commissioner, gave away the medals to the Boy's Singles winners. Competition will shift to the Doubles tomorrow starting with the boys at 9.00am and the girls in the afternoon at 1.30pm.
