Thai, Malaysian captures Graded Masters titles

20th June, Petaling Jaya: Phanupong Permpimol of Storm/Thailand and Arya Nur Jehan of Selangor/Malaysia captured the Men's Graded and Women's Graded Masters titles of the Kuala Lumpur International Open Bowling Championships 2026 late Saturday evening.

Chong Yew Jin of WBM/Legacy/XProshop got off the block with a cracking 268 to lead Phanupong Permpimol by just six pins with Jarvis Lim of CBM/Singapore in third with 258 and Muhammad Adam Darwish of PTBPP/MMBC in fourth with 257. The Thai added a superb 247 to move into the lead.

Mihd Shafizul of Abahcaca/Malaysia rolled 246 and 257 in his first two games to take up second spot. Eldred Kho Yek Zhen of ABAS/Sarawak and Muhammad Azizi Naim improved to third and fourth while Chong slipped down. Mohd Shafizul added a superb 254 to take over the running after the third game.

Chong bounced back with a sizzling 268 to move back up to second. Phanupong dropped to third. Mohd Shafizul remained in the lead after a 227 in the fourth game. Phanupong moved back up to second with 248 with Chong still in contention.


Top 3 winners of the Men's Graded Masters finals

Chong took over the lead briefly after the fifth game with Noor Afizal Azizan of Pro Wizard/Malaysia moving up to second. Noor Afizal led after the sixth game but was unable to fend off the challenges from Phanupong. The Thai went on to end with 195 to clinch the title with 1882.

Noor Afizal settled for second position with 1844 while Mohd Shafizul took third position with 1838. Phanupong pocketed the top prize of RM20,000 with Noor Afizal and Mohd Shafizul both taking home RM15,000 and RM10,000 respectively.

In the Women's Graded division, Nur Amira Abdul Rahim of KLTBA/Malaysia set the opening pace with 247 and went on to lead for the next three games. Ayra Nur Jehan of Selangor/Malaysia trailed for the first two games and Adriana Ramiza of ABAS/Sarawak trailed for the next four games.

Ayra Nur Jehan took over the lead after the fifth game and never looked back ending the finals with a scintillating 268 to seal victory with 1777. Adriana settled for second with 1731 while Nurul Imanina of MSN/Johor clinched third position with 1694.

Pace-setter, Nur Amira finished fourth with 1650 while Nurul Aisyah Binti Salleh of Abacaca/Perlis rounded out the top five with 1619. Ayra Nur Jehan earned RM8,000 as champion of the Women's Graded Masters finals with Nur Amira and Nurul Aisyah took home RM4,000 and RM2,000 respectively.

The Mixed Open Masters finals will be contested tomorrow, June 21 commencing at 10:00am which will conclude the week-long Kuala Lumpur International Open Bowling Championships 2025.
