Korean pair tops Doubles qualifying

30th June, Kuching, Sarawak: The first Korean pair of Paek Yedam and Noh Jimin topped the Girl's Doubles qualifying round of the 2026 IBF World Youth Championships ahead of the first American pair of Erin Klenmencic-Elizabeth Teuber in second and the second Malaysian pair of Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee-Adania Mohd Redzwan third.

The first American pair of Erin Klemencic and Elizabeth Teuber set the early pace in the 10-game qualifying round with 217 to lead Korean pair of Paek Yedam-Noh Jimin and the Japanese pair of Michiru Taguchi-Hinata Watanabe in sharing second spot.

Japan 1 shot into the lead after adding 225 in the second game and remained in the lead despite a 197 in the third game. Malaysia 1 was second after two games and held that spot after the third. The Malaysian pair took a brief lead after the fourth game.

The Korean pair fired several big games from the fifth game onwards and began to build a decent gap. The first Aussie pair of Bella Westlake and Brianna Walsh trailed Korea 1 for four games games but fizzled out in their last two games.


Squad 1 Top 3, USA 1, Korea 1 and Malaysia 1

Despite ending with 187 and 160 in their ninth and tenth games, Korea 1 topped the squad with 2099. USA 1 stormed home with 217 and 247 to snatch second spot with 2092 while Malaysia 1 settled for third with 2056.

In the second qualifying squad, the second Chinese pair of Shen Xuxi and Li Yiru took a surprised lead with a brilliant 256 in their opening game but quickly dropped out after a poor second game of 162. The second Malaysian pair of Adelia Nur Irwan and Adania Mohd Redzwan took over the running with 210 and 235 in their first two games.

Although the Adelia and Adania had several setbacks with low games in the third and seventh game, the Malsyain pair was very consistent in the rest of 10-game block.

Malaysia 2 topped the second squad with ease on a total of 2076. The second Korean pair of Jung Miteum and Noh Hyemin finished second with 2045 while the second Finish pair of Julia Vesanen and Tiiamari Laukkanen took third position with 2033.

With the two squads scored combined, Squad 1 leader Korea 1 remained atop the overall qualifying round. The USA 1 also maintain second position while Squad 2 leader, Malaysia 2 finished third overall.

The cut at 16th position to advance to the Matchplay round was the second Finish pair of Emma Palermaa and Stella Lokfros with a total of 1922. The first Taiwanese pair of Ho I Ching and Li Yi Rou missed the cut by five pins.

The top 16 pairs advance to the head-to-head Matchplay Round-Robin style matches with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in two groups. The top two with the highest points from each group will proceed to the Doubles Semi-finals.
