Malaysia adds two more gold medals

2nd August, Doha: Malaysia's quadruplet gold medalist, Qurratu 'Ain Pozi won her fifth at the 24th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships with victory in the Girl's Masters final while Muhammad Aqil Faizal ousted top-seed, Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait in the Boy's final to give Malaysia its seventh gold medal.

Qurratu 'Ain had earlier topped the second block Masters finals with 3411, winning five out of the eight matches contested to advance to the stepladder finals as top-seed. Her Doubles and Team gold medalist partner, Adelia Nur Syazalee gave Malaysia a one-two finish by taking up second with 3367.

Triple silver medalist, Huang Hsin-Tsen of Chinese Taipei made the cut for the stepladder finals in third position with 3274, 93 pins adrift Adelia.

Adelia gave no chance to the Taiwanese as she romped home a comfortable 269-213 victory in the semi-finals and earned a crack at the gold against her team-mate, Qurratu 'AIn. The top-seed edged Adelia, 190-179 in the first of two games total pinfalls.

Although Quarratu 'Ain lost the second match, 188-191, her two games total of 378 was enough for her to pick up her fifth gold medal of the championships. Adelia, with a total of 370, settled for the silver medal while Huang took home the bronze. With a medal haul of 5-1-1, Malaysia was awarded the Girls overall champion trophy.

In the boys division, second-seed and Team gold medalist, Muhammad Aqil Faizal of Malaysia A had lost the first match against top-seed and All-Events gold medalist, Nasser Alkandari of Kuwait A, 179-225 to trail by 31 pins.

In the second match, Muhammad Aqil rolled eight consecutive strikes from frame four onwards to take the second match, 268-179 and Malaysia's seventh gold medal with 462-404 total. The Malaysian had earlier dispatched third-seed, Dylan Lam of Hong Kong A, 229-191 to set up the finale with the Kuwaiti.

In the earlier second block Masters finals, Nasser amassed a two block total of 3866, winning 11 matches and drawing one to advance to the stepladder finals as top-seed. Muhammad Aqil did better winning seven matches and tieing one to add to his three wins and a draw from the first block for a total of 3834 pinfalls.

Lam barely made the cut for the stepladder finals, edging Muhammad Affan Azmi of Malaysia B by six pins to take up third with 3724.

Kuwait had an upper hand going into the second block with one gold and one silver while Malaysia had one gold and two bronze medals. Either country winning the Masters gold medal would be awarded the Boys overall champion title. Muhammad Aqil's victory sealed the award for Malaysia.

Malaysia also emerged as Overall Champion with a medal haul of 7-1-3. Kuwait took second position with 1-2-0 while host, Qatar and Vietnam were the two countries who have won the Boy's Doubles and the Boy's Singles gold medals.

His Excellency, Sheikh Talal Mohammed Al-Sabah, President of ABF/IBF and Kuwait Bowling was on hand to present the medals to the winners assisted by Mr Abdullah Al-Qattan, President of Qatar Bowling Federation, who gave away the bouquets of flowers.

A total of 59 boys and 20 girls from eleven countries participated at this year's championships. Indonesia will host the 25th Asian Junior Tenpin Bowling Championships in Jakarta from 21 to 30 August, 2026.
