Malaysia advances as top-seeds

18th December, Bangkok: Malaysia topped both the Men's and Women's Team of Four event of the 33rd SEA Games Bowling Championships at the end of the second block while both Thai men and women made the semi-finals cut in third and fourth respectively.

Thailand's Vilinkorn Kledkaew, Lapasdanai Chusaeng, Supakrit Wantasuk and Singles silver medalist, Napat Buspanikonkul got off to a cracking start with 947 in their opening game to lead Singapore's Mike Ong, Ryan Toh, Nu'man Syahmi and Jomond Chia by 55 pins.

Doubles gold medalists, Muhammad Syazirol Shamsuddin and Rafiq Ismail teamed up with Tsen Fan Yew and Tun Hakim followed in third with 883 followed by Philippines' Kenneth Chua, Marc Dylan Custodio, Artegal Barrientos and Singles bronze medalist, Mark Jesus San Jose in fourth.

Thailand lead did not last as the Malaysian quartet shot into the lead with another superb 880. Thailand trailed in second with Singapore and Philippines maintaining third and fourth.


Malaysian men advancing to the semi-finals as top seed

Malaysia ended the first block with 2587 as Singapore snatched second spot with 2547 while Thailand slipped down to third with 2520. Philippines was well placed in fourth, a further 55 pins away. Singapore fired a sizzling 900 at the start of the second block to take over the running as Malaysia managed 826 to trail the new leader by 34 pins. But Malaysia fought back to regain the lead, 55 pins ahead of Singapore. Malaysia ended the second block in the lead with 5100 and advance to the semi-finals as top-seed.

Singapore settled for second with 5002 while Thailand and Philippines made the cut for the semi-finals in third and fourth with 4965 and 4867 respectively. Indonesia missed the cut by 77 pins finishing fifth. Top-seed Malaysia will meet fourth-seed, Philippines in the semi-final while second-seed Singapore will face third-seed, Thailand in the other semi-finals match. The winnesr will meet in the gold medal final match.

Meanwhile, Malaysia's Natasha Roslan, Nur Hazirah Ramli, Adania Mohd Redzwan and Sin Li Jane also topped the six-games qualifying in the lead with 4870. Singapore's Arianne Tay, Nur Irdina Binte Hazly, Colleen Pee and Charmaine Chang Yu Qian, who led at the end of the first block, settled for second with 4836.

Alisha Nabilah Larasati, Sharon Limansantoso, Putty Armein and Adila Indryati of Indonesia ended the second block in third position with 4675. There was a keen tussle for the fourth semi-finals spot between Thailand and Philippines.

Chawakorn Wutti, Phattaranan Pingchittapraphai, Pinmanus Khumchaipoom and Ramita Sarntong of Thailand come off better than Philippines to clinch the final semi-finals spot with 4658. Philippines missed the cut by 15 pins taking up fifth position.

Top-seed Malaysia will face fourth-seed, Thailand in the semi-finals while second-seed Singapore will square off with third-seed, Indonesia in the other semi-finals match. The winners will meet in the gold medal final match.
