Japanese, Singaporean leads after second block

18th April, Bangkok: 2017 Squad B leader, Hiroki Tachibana of Japan ended the second block of qualifying rounds of the 50th MWA-Thailand International Open Bowling Championships as overall leader in the Men's Open division while 2017 champion, New Hui Fen led the Women's division.

Tachibana added 1171 to his first block of 1143 to lead the overseas pool with 2314. Rafiq Ismail of Malaysia, who took over top spot in Squad A, finished second with 2283. Squad C leader, Aiman Racdyn Lim Jen of Singapore took third spot with 2206.

The top 3 positions in the local pool changed hands with Pawat Ungtrakul and Wilaphut Andrew Wong sharing the lead with 2115. Overnight leader, Vilinkorn Kledkaew slipped down to third with 2112 after a poor 993 second block. The top 3 local and top 3 overseas qualifiers will earn a bye and skip Round 2 finals to automatically advance to Round 3 finals.

Muhd Jaris Goh of Singapore headed the mixed pool with 2204. Position 7 to 35 will qualify for Round 2 finals. The cut at 35th position went to Lin Yi Feng of Chinese Taipei with 2067, averaging 206.70. Missing the cut was Muhammad Aiman Farhah of Malaysia with 2060.


Block 2 overseas pool leader, Hiroki Tachibana

Positions 36 to 42 are reserved for the top 7 highest scorers of a single-game desperado squad, which will be held after the last qualifying squad at 12:00 midnight, local time. Qualifiers of the desperado squad will join Round 2 finals.

In the women's division, overnight first block leader New Hui Fen remained unbeaten and occupied top spot of the overseas pool with 2220. Two Malaysians, Squad A leader, Sin Li Jane of Malaysia and Squad B leader, Lavina Kho Jia Jie of ABAS, Sarawak took second and third spots with 2183 and 2075 respectively.

Chawakorn Wutti occupied top spot in the local pool with 1915 ahead of Pinmanus Khumchaipoom in second with 1895 while Yanee Saebe slipped down to third with 1859, after a poor 840 in her second block.

Nur Syazwani Sahar of Malaysia headed the mixed pool in seventh position with 2060. Positions 7 to 20 will qualify for Round 2 finals. The cut at 20th position went to Adelia Nur of Malaysia with 1949 or 51 under. Shirlene Wong Xue Lin of Singapore missed the cut by 27 pins with 1922.

Positions 21 to 26 are reserved for the top 6 highest scorers of a single-game desperado squad, which will be held after the last qualifying squad at 12:00 midnight, local time. Qualifiers of the desperado squad will join Round 2 finals.


New Hui Fen topping overseas pool after the second block

Bowlers will end qualifying rounds with their third block of five games tomorrow. Round 2 finals will be held at 9:30am local time over six games scratch. The top 12 men and top 9 women after the end of Round 2 will advance to Round 3 finals, joined by the 6 men and 6 women seeded qualifiers for another 6 games. The top 6 men and top 6 women at the end of Round 3 finals will proceed to the Stepladder shootout finals to determine this year's champions.
