American pair snatches second squad lead

1st July, Kuching, Sarawak: The second American pair of Jacob Bocksite and Josh Hammons snatched Squad 2 top spot at the end of the Boy's Doubles qualifying round of the 2026 IBF World Youth Bowling Championships followed by second Japanese pair in second and the second Swedish pair in third.

Jason Leung and Jovi Ma of Hong Kong second pair had a dream start with a perfect game to lead the second Malaysian pair of Muhd Danial Abu Samah and Muhd Aiman Syahin Sulaiman, who did well with a 266 opener. Bocksite and Hammons started well too with 257 o take up third.

Despite a 204 in the second game, Hong Kong 2 remained in the lead but not for long. The American pair added 222 and 226 in their second and third games to take over the running. The lead also changed hands after the second Swedish pair of Emil Svensson and Carl Eklund took over after the fourth game.

USA 2 felled to second, 39 pins adrift while Hong Kong was third and the second Qatari pair of Talal Al Marri and Abdulrahman Al Doseri moved into fourth. The Qataris followed it up with a superb 244 in the fifth game to leapfrog into the lead.

Sweden 2 stayed in second, 8 pins adrift and USA 2 recovered slightly after a poor fourth game. Two big games from the Japanese second pair of Atsuki Hashimoto and Takumi Miyamoto rolled massive games of 236, 258, 224 and 238 from the fifth to the eighth games to become the new leader.

The Swedes continued to trail the Japanese with USA 2 still in third. Bocksite and Hammons fired 234 and 279 to end the qualifying round in pole position with 2240. Japan 2 settled for second with 2232 while Sweden 2 managed 191 in their final game to take up third with 2223.

Three big games of 246, 247 and 269 from the Australian pair of Blake Walsh and Julian Dinham propelled them to fourth position with 2206 while Romania 2 rounded out the top five with 2150.

Bocksite and Hammons topped the overall qualifying round standings with 2240. Squad 1 leader, Sweden 1 although with a same total, had a lower final game to settle for second overall. Japan 2 finished third, Sweden 2 took fourth and Australia 2 completed the top five.

The cut in 16th position went to the second Peruvian pair of Daiki Kanashiro and Adrian Tokashiki with 2100. Singapore's second pair of Brian Ngoi and Aiman Raedyn Lim missed the cut by five pins.


Squad 2 Top 3, Japan 2, USA 2 and Sweden 2

The top 16 pairs advance to the head-to-head Matchplay Round-Robin style matches with 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss in two groups. The top two with the highest points from each group will proceed to the Doubles Semi-finals.
