Kuwait, Singapore celebrates historical double

25th August, Petaling Jaya: Kuwait and Singapore celebrated an historical double after Kuwait clinched the Boy's Team and Boy's All Events gold at the 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships while Singapore added two more gold medals by winning the Girl's Team and All Events.

Malaysia's Muhammad Daniel Abu Samah, Wan Muhammad Zarif Ikram, Ethan Damien Goh and Muhammad Aiman Syahin, who had topped the first block of 3 games, did not get off to a good start on the medium oil condition after a poor 740 and slipped down to third.

Kuwait's AbdulRzzaq Mohamad, Adel Ali, Nasser Alkandari and Hassan Qasem, who were third overnight, blazed the lanes with a scorching 940 to regain their lead as Korea's Bae Jung Hun, Kim Woo Jin, Bae Su Hyeon and Shin Ji Ho downed 853 to remain in second.

Singapore's Jayden See, Brian Ong, Mike Ong Jing Loong and Aiman Raedyn Lim Jen shot the highest one-game thus far with 971 to move closer to the front-running teams.


Kuwait winning the coveted Boy's Team Gold

Malaysia bounced back with a brilliant 937 to regain their lead after the fifth game. Korea stayed closed with 856 to trail in second while Kuwait managed 786 and dropped down to third. Singapore ended their final game with a strong 939 for a total of 5158 but Malaysia rolled 860 to end ahead of Singapore with 5172.

Korea finished with 907 for a total of 5187 to beat both Malaysia and Singapore and could only watch how Kuwait finish their final game. Kuwait kept their cool to end with 957, edging Korea by seven pins to clinch the gold medal with 5194. The victory ended their 18 years wait after they last won the Team gold back in 2007 in Beijing, China.

Meanwhile Singapore's Hazel Tan Wei Ning, Shirlene Wong Xue Lin, Lim Shi En and Nur Irdina Bte Hazly stamped their mark by romping home victorious in the Girl's Team event to win their fourth gold medal with 5017. The champion had topped the first block with a margin of 34 pins and ended with 29 pins gap at the end of the second block.

Korea's Paek Ye Dam, Jo Yoon Seo, Noh Hye Min and Lee Da Eun, who trailed the Singaporean all the way, settled for yet another silver medal with 4988.

Malaysia's Qurratu 'Ain Izdihar, Nurul Anis Nabila, Adelia Nur Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan had no big games throughout the second block to earn the bronze medal with 4796. Japan overtook Chinese Taipei for fourth with 4524 and the Taiwanese rounded out the top five with 4468.

Hassan Qasem gave Kuwait their double joy after winning the Boy's All Events gold with 4123. Bae Jung Hun edged Muhammad Aiman Syahin of Malaysia by eight pins to clinch the silver medal with 4071 while the Malaysian settled for the bronze with 4063.

Lim Shi En also gave Singapore an historical double and their fifth gold of the championships by winning the Girl's All Events gold medal with 3828. Shirlene Wong wrapped up a great day for Singapore by picking up the silver with 3822. Korea's Noh Hye Min secured the bronze medal with 3791.

The top 16 boys and top 16 girls based on their standings in the All Events table qualified for the Matchplay Round-Robin Masters finals over two blocks of eight games. Doubles bronze medalist, Talal Al Marri of Qatar was the cut in 16th position with 3761 in the boy's division.

Two bronze medalist, Qurratu 'Ain Izdihar of Malaysia was the cut in 16th position with 3477 in the girl's division. The first block Masters finals will commence tomorrow at 9:00am local time.
