Sweden, USA wins Group Matchplay rounds

1st July, Kuching, Sarawak: Sweden 2 won Group A with Finland 1 in second and USA 1 won Group B with Malaysia 2 in second during the Matchplay rounds of the 2026 IBF World Youth Bowling Championships to advance to the Girl's Doubles semi-finals.

The second Swedish pair of Nicole Layrisse and Maja Engberg had lost their opening match, but was quick to bounce back with a win in the second match. The Swedes then went on to win all the remaining Matchplay round matches to secure top spot in Group A with 18 points.

Finland's Emma Palermaa and Stella Loktrors and Korea's Jung Miteum and Noh Hyemin tied second spot with 12 points each from four wins. Finland 1 defeated Korea 2, 215-188 in a one-game roll-off to break the tie and advanced to the semi-finals in second.

The fancied Malaysia 1 of Qurratu'Ain Izdihar-Intan Nor Edryana pair had a poor run and ended in a disappointing eighth position with just two wins while the second American pair of Katelyn Abigania-Gianna Brandolino also failed to make an impression finishing sixth in the group with three wins only.

In Group B, USA's first pair of Erin Klemencic and Elizabeth Teuber won six of the seven matches contested to score 18 points to advance as top of the group. The second Malaysian pair of Adelia Nur Irwan Syazalee and Adania Mohd Redzwan made amends for their team-mate's disappointment by finishing second in the group with 18 points.

The American pair claimed pole because they ended with a higher game score of 256 to Malaysia's 215. The second Finish pair of Julia Vesanen and Tiiamari Laukkanen were unlucky to end up in third despite winning five matches.

Sweden 2 will face Malaysia 2 in the first semi-finals match while USA 1 will meet Finland 1 in the other semi which is scheduled for Sunday, July 5. The winner will proceed to the Final on Monday, July 6. The losers will be awarded a bronze medal each.
