Japan, Korea tops Masters Block 1

26th August, Petaling Jaya: Fumine Suda of Japan topped the Boy's Masters first block finals of the 22nd Asian Youth Tenpin Bowling Championships with a slender margin while Lee Da Eun of Korea led the Girl's division with just a three pin gap.

Team bronze medalist, Muhammad Danial Abu Samah defeated team-mate and Doubles gold medalist, Muhammad Aiman Syahin 248-214 in his opening match to lead Daiya Saito of Japan by 5 pins, who beat compatriot, Fumine Suda 243-212. Singles gold medalist, Aiman Raedyn Lin Jen of Singapore and Bae Su Hyeon of Korea also won their first match with identical 237 to share third position.

Aiman Lim won his second match with a superb 258 to take over the running from Muhammad Danial, who also won his second match albeit with a lower score of 203.

The Singaporean easily won his next two matches with 266 and 223, stretching his lead to 42 pins. Suda started to pick up two wins with 224 and a stunning 290 to move into second spot. Singles bronze medalist, Talal Al Marri of Qatar managed two wins out of four to occupy third.

The Japanese won three of his remaining four matches to end the first block in the lead with 1941 and a total of five wins. Aiman Lim only picked up two wins out of four to finish second with 1939 on six wins total.

The Qatari also managed two wins out of four to take up third position with 1911 on a total of just four wins. Bae Su Hyeon of Korea and two gold medalist, Hassan Qasem of Kuwait rounded out the top five with 1855 and 1849 respectively.

In the girl's division, Lee Da Eun won her first two matches to lead Singapore's Shirlene Wong Xue Lin and then team-mate and All Events bronze medalist, Noh Hye Min. Wong added two more wins from her two opening matches to lead the Korean for the next two matches.

Lee also won her third and fourth matches but trailed the Singaporean by just six pins. Lee won her next three matches to regain her lead as Wong failed to pick up any wins. By the seventh match, the leader remained in the lead with another win.

Singles and Team gold medalist, Hazel Tan Wei Ning had only won three matches but managed to post respectable scores and despite losing her seventh match, she moved into second spot. Although Lee ended the first block losing her final match, she topped the block with 1805 and an impressive seven wins out of eight.

Tan settled for second with her fourth win to finish second with 1802, just three pins adrift. Two bronze medalist, Qurratu 'Ain Izdihar of Malaysia stormed home to take up third position with 1774 on a total of six wins.

Wong finished fourth with 1773 on a total of five wins while triple silver medalist, Paek Ye Dam of Korea completed the top five with 1747 from five wins and a draw. The finalists will resume tomorrow at 9:00am with the second block of seven matches and a position-round match to determine the top three to proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals.
