National bowler ends drought to win the Macao Cup

23rd June, Macau: 2017 Macao-China Open second runner-up and national bowler, Zoe Dias Ma ended an eight-year drought to win the 2025 Macao Cup title of the 2025 Macao-China International Open Bowling Championships followed by two veterans, Wong Wang Ip in second and Cheng Peng Sheng third.

Dias Ma had a brilliant start rolling 245 in his opening game to lead team-mate, Lei Hok Hin by 22 pins in second with Pang Cheok Him in third a further 11 pins away. The 34-year-old added another superb game of 234 to stretch his lead to 39 pins from Lei.

The Macao-China national team member continued to lead he pack with a good 213 in the third game to take his gap from Lei to 55 pins. Despite a weak 167 in the fourth game, Dias Ma remained in the lead. Senior bowler, Cheng Peng Sheng string together 176, 224, 194 and 197 to leapfrog into second spot, ten pins behind.

Lei slipped down to third one pin ahead of another senior, Wong Wang Ip moving up into contention in fourth. Dias Ma bounced back with 221 to keep a decent gap to his opponent, Cheng still in second with Lei and Wong still in the running.

Dias Ma held on for the victory with 1261, despite ending with 181. Cheng also ended poorly with 168 and 1233 to drop down to third, just four pins behind Wong, who snatched second position with 1257. Lei missed the podium with 1218 in fourth.

So Cheng Lam was the top female performer rounding up the top five with 1188. Macau youth, Lucio Marcelino Chiu, Wong Son Ian and Ho Chi Chong completed in the money from sixth to eighth positions.

Qualifying rounds will continue through to June 26. The Senior and Men's Grade Masters finals will be contested on June 27 morning with the Men's and Women's Open Round 1 finals in the afternoon while the Men's Grade A and Women's Graded Masters finals in the evening.

The Youth Masters finals will be held on June 28 morning and the Men's and Women's Open Round 2 finals in the afternoon. The top 6 finishers in the Men's and Women's Open Round 2 finals will proceed to the Stepladder Shootout finals to determine this year's champions.
